I have a history of spectacular tumbles, Dave. Wildlife park in Oz, 2006. Restaurant in Liverpool, 2012. Canal side, Bude, 2016. Two separate occasions falling over fences on the coast path. Now this one. I just don't look where I'm going. You'll be the first to know when I do a rock-solid old-age one!

I was on foot, Dave! I miscounted the number of concrete steps going up the path by one...

Cheers, Dave. Mind you, it would have helped if I hadn't gone arse over tit on the coast path the weekend before last, cutting my toes and knees and grazing my head into a Gorbachev lookalike mode. The lads at the Bude Surf Life Saving Club patched me up and ordered me off to the minor injuries unit in Bude, where a lovely nurse spent an hour and a half delicately picking bits of sand and gravel out of me. I've still got a few sore bits. So that's me in the wars for all of September and half of October, on top of bloody covid at the start of July. At least I had the hot half of July and the whole of August to enjoy! When the ladies on the tills at Morrisons (who all know me - it's like that round here) ask me how I am, these days I always reply that I'm giving meself just a bit more than a 50% chance of making it through the night :-)

You may be mathematically challenged but your young advisers are biologically challenged!

I expect that we've all got some cells in us somewhere that have a half percent chance (or worse) of going rogue over some unspecified time scale. It's something I can't bring myself to worry about until something adverse surfaces...

My kidney function plummeted to critically low levels when I got poorly a few weeks ago. I had a blood test last Thursday. The nurse said that they'd be in touch only if things weren't looking good. I've haven't heard. Woohoo!

I have some Barretts cells that have a half a percent chance per year of turning cancerous. I get checked every 2 years.

Sometime back I was talking with 2 younger friends, one doing a science/maths PhD, the other a first or second maths degree saying that would make a 1% chance in 2 years & a 2% chance in 4 years & I'd probably not live long enough to get cancer, but they were not to tell me if my maths were wrong! They smiled politely ...

I guess you'll just have to grin and Barret, Gnome. Elective body part removal has significantly improved my life of late, hope it does for you too.

I once had to have my Bassetts removed from my oesophagus. It was giving me allsorts of problems. The doc didn't take me seriously - thought I was only choking.

Ditto! But ain't modern medical science wonderful? Knowing it had to be monitored and then performing the preventive procedures before it became a major issue. Prevention is better than cure, eh?

I hope everything goes well, Dave.

No, nowt to do with Privateers! It's bits of the oesophagus that have gone rogue due to reflux. I have had a hiatus hernia for almost my full adult life so they periodically check that nothing nasty has developed. Well, last time they found some dysplasia which, if left untreated, can go cancerous. Luckily because I am so well monitored they did spot it and removed the dysplastic cells a couple of months back and suggested that I would benefit from having the Barrett's oesophagus treated too. I didn't know they could but since 2005 the NHS have been teating it with Radiofrequency ablation, which I had done yesterday. Dead easy job and, so far, no ill effects.

I will still need to be monitored but, all being well, this will keep any nasties away for a long time :-)

Anyone else had the treatment want to share their experience or anyone want to know any more?
