Sally Goodin ran a boarding house there and allowed the soldiers to camp and play music. To show their appreciation of her kindness, Morgan's men renamed the tune in her honor. http://bluegrassmessengers.com/sally-goodin--version-1-fiddle-lyrics--kuntz.aspx * I didn't do any more checking thay this is the correct Bruce Greene ;) |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Fiddle Tune from Daniel Boone TV Series From: Lighter Date: 14 Sep 23 - 08:23 AM "Said to have been." By whom? On what evidence? Renamed from what? Color me skeptical. It's probably no coincidence, though, that the 1848 minstrel song concerns two characters with fiddle-tune names. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Fiddle Tune from Daniel Boone TV Series From: Lighter Date: 13 Sep 23 - 04:17 PM Whether the tune was played in Boone's day is simply unknown: virtually nobody mentioned the titles of American fiddle tunes in that period. There was a minstrel song called "Sallie Gooden and Jenny Weaver" in 1848, apparently to a different tune. The earliest reference I've seen to "Sally Gooden" as a dance tune is from 1878 - in Minnesota! |
