There is still a robust Prairie Home Companion website. Searching for songs there might be a stretch, but the "search" feature has Google pointed at the site archive, and it looks like there might be transcripts to search. Are the lyrics transcribed? You'll have to try it out.

About a decade ago I heard a song sung by Garrison on A Prairie Home Companion about a duo trying to make it in show business. It started out something like:
We're just a couple of kids, in the show business
Just trying to entertain you
We've been rehearsing this act for a long time
Just doing the best we can do
Somehow it just doesn't seem to be working
Our carreers are going nowhere. . .

That's all I can recall. Is this familiar to anyone?
