Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Banks of the Roses - Martyn Wyndham-Read From: The Doctor Date: 09 Sep 25 - 05:44 AM I've just listened to the song as on that LP, and verse 5 sounds exactly as you have it. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Martyn has been known to change words in songs from one rendition to another, it's part of the ageing process. The important thing is to keep singing the songs. |

Subject: Lyr Req: Banks of the Roses - Martyn Wyndham-Read From: GUEST,Wayland the Bard Date: 08 Sep 25 - 03:58 PM I'm trying to work out the lyrics of this song from the 1966 album "A Wench a Whale and a Pint of Good Ale". It differs from the three versions on Mudcat. I cannot decipher some words in verse 5. When I have them all, I will publish the whole song here. The lyrics I am uncertain of are surrounded by square brackets. Well [it's] I’ll put on me boots now and I’ll take up me pack I’ll put away me violin and swing it on me back I’m gonna take me leave now, and swagger on me way [For here’s adieu] to the banks of The Roses. /Martin |
