Johnson guitars are Chinese-made guitars that would fit the appelation of "bargain basement Samicks."

I found the thread. As a matter of fact, I started it! Go here. You should search for "Gene E" rather than Gene, by the way.

Froodo. There has been a lot of discussion about Johnson guitars in the newsgroup:

rec.music.makers.guitars.acoustic

Try a DejaNews search. Also there was a thread some years ago that discussed resonator guitars and the Johnson was mentioned. The person who started the thread had the codename "Gene". (Come to think of it he hasn't posted for a long time! Are you out ther lurking, Gene?)

They make ordinary acoustics as well as resonators. Some of them are made in China and others are made one of the former "Iron Curtain" countries.

They're making guitars out of johnsons? This is scary!

Tho' it might be the solution to airplane travel with your guitar.

Carry it in a mandolin case. When you want to play guitar, take it out and fondle it....

Sorry (well, sort of)

Peter.

Anybody ever heard of Johnson Guitars? I know they make resonators. Are they any good? Any reputation?

THanks again for the help.
