Subject: RE: Some days you just get lucky From: Metchosin Date: 25 Feb 00 - 01:31 PM Wesly, another wonderful Sally Ann find, of a few years back, a portable RCA Stereo record player with a Garrard turntable with all three speeds, that I can plug directly into our stereo system through the RCA's headphone jack. Sounds dreadful but I can get the lyrics and make tapes.
My husband has promised to disassemble the Garrard and mount it on the wall directly above our A R turntable, as our Amp has two turntable input jacks, which should improve the sound quality, but I am not holding my breath until this happens. Meanwhile, I struggle with my cobbled together system. Now, when I finally figure out how to record and send MP3 files, I'll be able to share my treasures more fully. |

Subject: Some days you just get lucky From: Metchosin Date: 24 Feb 00 - 01:39 AM Well to each his own. I struck it rich at the Sally Ann today. I managed to get the following 78RPMs:
The Prisoners Song and the Wreck of the Old 97 (in the DT) by Vernon Dalhart (ca. 1924)
Also the soundtrack from "Oh What A Lovely War" which includes these lovely pieces from WW1: Oh Its a Lovely War, Gassed Last Night, There's a Long Long Trail, Hush Here Comes a Wizzbang, They were Only Playing Leapfrog, I Wore a Tunic, Joe Soap's Army, When This Lousy War is Over, I Want to Go Home, The Bells of Hell and many others. Anyone wanting to have the lyrics to any these let me know and I will start transcribing with those first and hopefully get to the others that aren't already on the DT as time permits. |
