Molly, if the bow caught in your pants and snapped off, I would think that you're the one who would be sore.

Seamus Ennis, the piper, when the talk got round to what was the best way to get a good sound from a bodhran, used to say "with a penknife."

How tight was my bodhran?
I'll tell you right now
That it sounds like a spotted
And sickly old cow
When I call upon it to play "Johnny Cope"
Do you think that it sounds right?
The answer is "Nope!"

LOL

My sister's is the fiddler for my band...she'll love that one Troll.

About a year or so ago, so had her (very expensive) bow sticking out in the aisle of the pub we were at for a session. I was wearing baggy pants, didn't see it, and it caught on my pants. SNAP! It broke in half! I never even felt it catch. She's been a little sore about it ever since.:)

O well, that's killed that idea... I hadn't realised it had been done before but on reflection I suppose it was an obvious idea.

Actually, Squeak, I heard an Irish Band near San Francisco do that version last year sometime. ('Cept it wasn't a pen knife). I think the suggestion is to replace the tippler with a knife.
Blessings,
Barbara

Wait for it.

With a penknife dear Jon, dear Jon, dear Jon, With a penknife dear Jon, dear Jon, with a penknife!!!

Now hands up who didn't see THAT coming!!

MY BODHRAN IS TOO TIGHT

My bodhran is too tight.

My bodhran is too tight.

I sweat and toil,

With grease and oil,

and still the tones not right.

My bodhran is too tight.

My bodhran is too tight.

I've tried neetsfoot,

And oily soot,

My hands they look a fright.

It's such a bummer.

I've tried each thing that anyone's suggested.

And for a drummer,

It's hard to play a drum that sounds congested.

And I've protested.

My bodhran is too tight.

My bodhran is too tight.

Since I can't play

It any way.

I'll do it just for spite!

My bodhran is too tight.

My bodhran is too tight.

The fiddler's mad.

That's too damnn bad!

I'm gonna play all night!

Apologies in advance for the cliched and tawdry content thisone could spawn-but after reading the very interesting thread (and seeing some folks itchin' to bust loose) I couldnt help but crave a song or two about the funny side of "My Bodhran's too Tight". Anyone care to join in the fracas??
