The statement Clinton made probably came from a speechwriter, but I believe the basic sentiment came from his heart. As another of his generation, I like it...We are in the debt of those that walked the bridge.

I don't know...now that's everything's coming to a close, I feel sorry for Bill. He's kinda like a lovable loser. And you can tell that everything that's happened in the last 6 years is taking it's toll on him. The poor guy looks terrible. I hope he can find a way to regain some of his lost dignity after the election. True, he is a slimy politician, but more importantly, underneath he's still a person like you and me--with more problems and troubles than Carter's got pills.

Agreed, Dave me lad...but we must give the devil his due, that he let the words out of his mouth, and even _acted_ sincere about it. A real Playboy of the Western World, that one...

Sober words Amos, great words, pity the messenger chosen to deliver was not more honourable, and worthy of such a task. Of course thats my own opinion, and not shared by everyone. I just think that such erudition without grace is worthless. The people who suffered there would echo the words with grace and deeper feeling. Yours,Aye.Dave

Andromeda Strain? Does this have to do with Cassiopeia, Cepheus, and sea monsters? And Spaw--don't you get John Boy and Billy in the morning?

Yes he is Meebo....And my local morning zoo radio show has a contest where Weasel and Jimmy-Jam are taking a male virgin to Daytona for Spring break with them.

But Amos is right, just be sure that whoever "hugs" you doesn't leave any of that Andromenada strain shit on your willy.

I am SURE all God's critters got a place in the choir, but I am having a lot of trouble placing the possum in mine! How does that verse go again? I can hear him, I just can't believe him! And he keeps skittering around to a new spot!

Also am struggling with what to do with the more coprophagous of our critters. I can write their verses but lack adequate shovels to manage the habitat. Yet they are part of our voice.

Now THEY SAY in a recent study (I'm NOT going downstairs to find which magrag cited it), that you can't get hugs online. [snortle] So apparently not everyone has yet been to the Mudcat, for if they had, the study would have reflected some of last night's doings, eh me mates??? !*!*!*!*!*!*!

So if we just get everyone on the planet to join (and contribute big bucks), apparently we CAN change the world.

Have You *Hugged* a Newbie, Today?

Yee hahhh!

Amos - agreed. Noble words from Mr Clinton, and appropriate.

Only problem is, with some folks it's "I'm allowed to be different, you aren't!"

The following excerpt is from Slate magazines "Today's Papers" service. It is excerpted from Bill Clinton's remarks to the people of Selma, about the bloody civil rights march that took place ther eonly 35 years ago.

I have no drum to play for Bill Clinton who has more faces than I want to count. But this quote seems to me to reflect both on an important piece of recent history, and as well on why we keep doing what we do on the Cat and in the world:

"[T]hose of you who marched 35 years ago set me free, too, on Bloody Sunday--free to know you, to work with you, to love you, to raise my child to celebrate our differences and hallow our common humanity."

Seems to me the last line is an international mission statement of undying importance and universal application: to celebrate our differences and hallow our common humanity.

Here's to his unknown speechwriter.
