That's a brilliant resource, especially since the one I've got is buried under a heap of book somewhere in the house. But even when I find it, having a hypertext version will be really handy.

I'm glad it's the 1894 version - the modernised editions just lack the full quirkiness.

Oh you wonderful Mudcatters. I love you Jon. I love you Bat Goddess. I just found Brewers, I'm really excited, I mean really excited, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh!

A million blessings on your houses and all the generations that flow from your loins. Fortunato

Brewer's is the top of my "Stranded on a desert island" list. I haven't been without mine since 1968.

It is indeed an excellent book, I use it a lot myself.

Better though is Shakespeares Insults for the office - great to tell your boss that he is mewling and puking in his mothers arms, and get away with it because it's Literature!

I was chatting to Jeri earlier and I mentioned the Brewers Phrase and Fable was a good source of finding out about expressions. I have just found this online resource: http://www.bibliomania.com/Reference/PhraseAndFable/

I think it might be of interest t other people here.

Jon
