Subject: RE: Festivals in England - Fall 2000? From: cujimmy Date: 09 Apr 00 - 11:05 PM I would thoroughly recomend Otley Folk festival in West Yorkshire - Sept 15 - 17, there isn't a bad pub in the whole town, inprompu sessions take place everywhere, there are excellent guests, excelent accomodation, camping, and it is very very friendly, so visitors from U.S.A. Canada, Australia, Africa, Mars, The Moon and the outer solar system wil be made to feel welcome - and the beer is good too. |

Subject: RE: Festivals in England - Fall 2000? From: GUEST,Peter F. at TLT Date: 09 Apr 00 - 12:48 PM Why just England? Sunny Scotland has a welth of festivals too. 1-3 Sep.Kirriemuir Festival(TEL. 01575 574986)is run by the TMSA,(Traditional Music and Song Association)packed with competitions involving traditional material from singers and players a shade or two closer to that living tradition that still exists though often hard to find. The following weekend 8-10 SEP. Heart of Scotland Festival in Aberfeldy(tel.01350 727158)and further south east, Linlithgow Folk Festival in Linlithgow (tel.01506 844392) are festvals more with the emphasis on FOLK MUSIC and based on the "weekend party" spirit. Much farther North is the Shetland Fiddle& Accordion Festival, 12-16 Oct. Hardy souls with strong livers a liking for late nights and a fondness for both of the instruments of the devil may even decide to stay for ever. You can allways hedge your bets by attending a new event, Both Sides of the Tweed Music Festival, 13-15 Oct.(tel.0870 607 0250).This will be held in Kelso right on the Scotish/English border and aims to play host to an international line up of guests. |
