Subject: RE: Kara's new improved click here From: Jo Taylor Date: 18 Jun 00 - 07:17 PM Kara, I was referring to HTML, not English or French, sorry if I was unclear! In general, use gifs for flat colour, jpegs for photographs, and size according to display size, at 72dpi which is screen resolution. I'm also English, living in France - whereabouts are you? I'm in Normandie, not far from Bayeux Jo |

Subject: RE: Kara's new improved click here From: GUEST,Mrr Date: 16 Jun 00 - 10:41 AM Kara, would you like help with the French? My email is on bbc if you want a free consultant with the language... For instance, in your opening sentence, where you say "Cette site à été spécialement conçu pour vous tenir informé" [this is pasted so I hope the accents come through] use of the auxilliaire Avoir means that le verbe Concevoir devrait concorder avec "site" which is feminine, and without any auxilliaire the verb informed should be plural as you are probably not using Vous as the singular (talking to only one user) polite form... |

Subject: RE: Kara's new improved click here From: Jon Freeman Date: 16 Jun 00 - 08:07 AM Kara, I have put a copy of your page here. Apart from getting rid of a lot of junk at the top, and changing .jpg to /gif for the logo, I have not changed the HTML. I have however reduced the size of your jpeg files quite considerably to speed up download. If this is to be your planned layout, perhaps you would like to save these images before I remove them from my site as they should speed things up a lot for you. The worst offender was blacksun.jpg which was 142kb reduced to small dimensions for display. It is now 14kb and probably could be made even smaller. Jon |

Subject: RE: Kara's new improved click here From: Kara Date: 16 Jun 00 - 02:30 AM Sounds good to me. I find the langue a bit daunting, being an English Speaker living in France I think I have enough langue problems, but I can see that it is going to be nessesary to learn html. I like the bright colours but will change to gifs as soon as poss. I am going to try the link again now |

Subject: RE: Kara's new improved click here From: Jo Taylor Date: 15 Jun 00 - 07:06 PM Just had a look - Kara, do you realise that if someone visiting your site does not have a particular font installed on their own computer, they will not see your pages as intended? I do have Brush Script MT but many will not - they will see all the script text in their default viewing font - probably Times or Arial...just a thought. The knot graphic will probably load quicker if you save it as a gif rather than jpeg - gifs are more efficient(smaller file size) for flat colour. Had a look at the source code - there's rather a lot of extraneous HTML in there - have a look at some of the many excellent on-line tuition pages for HTML - programs such as Claris Home Page will do stuff for you but it's better to learn the 'language'. You might also consider toning the colours down a bit - they're rather headachey! Sorry if this sounds negative, but keep at it! Jo |
