Mbo, why don't you transfer to NYU or St. John's? You can live with me rent free and cook and clean to your heart's content. You can even have the computer.

Someone once said that a house doesn't get any dirtier after four years.

I don't know, I haven't been anywhere that long since childhood.

Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. *sigh*

I wish I could own a house, and still be renting my apartment for about six months after moving, so I could go through everything I have and get rid of the stuff I no longer need, and lovingly rescue my treasured belongings from the mess!

And I would have it set up and organized in the way I actually use things, so that it would be natural to tidy, clean, etc. Containers to put things in, separators for paperwork. All easy to use. A large triple sink in the kitchen, counter space enough for cooking from scratch.

*SIGH*

It is good to dream.
Cause when you know what you want, it's easier to aim for it.

Alice, you'll have to get with my Mister. His ideal home is all stainless steel, with floors that slope down to a drain/garbage disposal in the center of the floor. Simple hosing is all that is necessary. And I'd have compost for the garden. I think he's put a little too much thought into this....

Allan, our motto here is "You won't catch any diseases, but remember Martha doesn't live here."

kat, you were worried about MY ceiling inspections??? Nawtee gal!!

I love it, Alice!! Next house I have, we'll incorporate the design, give you credit, give tours and demos, and you're on your way to making a mint!

Bernard, that will be my motto from now on!

Kat, when I was a kid I thought of an invention that would be a step toward a self-cleaning house - except for the clutter. It would have little holes in the floor and corners, etc., that would connect to a large vacuum in the basement. You would turn on different sections at a time (to keep the sucking power strong) and it would vaccuum in the dust, and dirt.

I, too, have a 'Clean Free House'. Anyone is free to come and clean it for me...

This kinda reminds me of one of my favorite songs, Housewife's Lament.

I have found that if I move every two years or so, I only have to do heavy cleaning once (in order to get the deposit back - no play on words intended).

As a young man I used to do the same with my checking accounts. If I got to a point that I could no longer figure out my balance, I simply switched banks!

I think that many of us have made concious or unconcious decisions to put housecleaning in a lower priority on our "things to do" list. We seem to have much more important things, (such as making music,) to do.

An acquaintance of mine used to have a sign hanging in her kitchen which said, "My house is clean enough to be healthy, dirty enough to be happy".

Ahem, lest anyone else think of this in that, let me point out that I was being a perfect, ummm, laydee....Rog wasn't even in bed, yet. He didn't have his glasses on, either, but was standing up and is taller, therefore closer to the ceiling to see!**BG**

Andres, that sounds a solution for some...my cats would probably love it!

Mary Poppins, Samantha from Bewitched, what's with all the magic fingers? Whatever, I would love that, too, but like you, Yvonne, I'd probably get bony fingers!*BG*

Naemanson, that is basically my current policy!

Dave, there's a light switch? Heehee!

luvya'll...kat

A friend of mine lived in a house that was abandoned by one of his aunts. It was a large ancient house with 7 bedrooms. Once I visited him and called his attention to the thick lyers of dust, garbage of every kind and cigarette ashes all over the floor, then he explained to me: " Oh, yes, I'll move tomorrow to the next bedroom. Really, this is already dirty".

Dettachable rooms ! Could it be the solution ? :)

Un abrazo - Andrés

Kat,
When they talk about 'moaning' in bed I didn't know it was supposed to be about the state of the ceiling!!!!!!

A clean-free house sounds like a wonderful idea. I've always longed for the 'Mary Poppins' powers to click my fingers and everything goes back to where it should be..........absolute bliss. I think my fingers would be worn to the bone....from clicking not cleaning!!

best wishes, Yvonne

Last night I was lying on the bed, looked up at the ceiling and, as I didn't have my glasses on, asked Rog what three spots were on the ceiling. I don't like bugs hanging out above me.

It was just dirt. He very kindly said something about pollen getting blown in on the fan. I laughed and admitted what a bad housekeeper I am.

Then, Rog had a great idea. Earlier, we'd been discussing the fact that our new little refrigerator is not frost-free. So, teasing me, he went on to say I needed a "clean-free" house!

I think it is a marvelous idea and would like to see it become a reality!**BG**

Clean-free; you'll never have to dust, mop, pick up, wash off, wash up, scour, vacuum, again!
