Subject: RE: BS: Mobile / Cellphone tune for a folkie From: JTT Date: 20 Oct 00 - 06:50 PM Search for "mobile phone tunes" on google or dogpile and you should find many sites. www.mobilephonetunes.co.uk has a large selection of suitably irritating tunes, including the Austin Powers theme, and togo.co.uk has some too; they seem to be an English thing. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mobile / Cellphone tune for a folkie From: Grab Date: 20 Oct 00 - 02:48 PM Noreen, I'll pass your details on. "CV: Specialist in cartoon theme tunes." I'm not sure you'd want the job though - the daft bugger's working 50-60 hour weeks. He earns more than I do, but I reckon he's welcome to it! Grab. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mobile / Cellphone tune for a folkie From: Noreen Date: 20 Oct 00 - 07:10 AM OK Zeb (and John!): I've worked out the first part of the Kerry Polka in the key of C in crotchets and quavers, in one octave, taking 38 notes. 200 bpm should be just fine. If you want it I can scan and send as an attachment to an e-mail address. Let me know. Grab- I'd like to have 'Roobarb and Custard' on mine- it might make people smile instead of looking cross when the phone rings! And to your friend: I can do that! Gizza job! Noreen |

Subject: RE: BS: Mobile / Cellphone tune for a folkie From: Grab Date: 19 Oct 00 - 01:02 PM I've got a friend who works at a mobile phone company in Cambridge (TTPCOM). He's building a new phone ATM and is busy installing all manner of fiddle tunes on it. He's also got "Roobarb and Custard" and other such oddities programmed into the development versions, but they're most likely under copyright and won't make production. Grab. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mobile / Cellphone tune for a folkie From: Helen Date: 18 Oct 00 - 01:24 AM The tune which came to my mind is Barbara Ellen - but I don't play it so I don't know for sure if it has accidentals. It's a fairly simple tune which resolves itself in four lines. (forgive me for posting when I don't *really* know if it would work.) Another one may be Waly Waly?? Helen |

Subject: RE: BS: Mobile / Cellphone tune for a folkie From: Zebedee Date: 17 Oct 00 - 04:38 PM Noreen, I tried JB's tune finder and found lots of versions of the Kerry Polka. Every one I tried included semi quavers. I only have a choice of two note lengths; long and short. Loads of tunes fit that, the limit of 40 notes is the real bugger. You get half way through the second run through of the tune where it's about to resolve, but run out of notes way too early... Zeb It would be OK except for needing a really fast tune |

Subject: RE: BS: Mobile / Cellphone tune for a folkie From: Noreen Date: 17 Oct 00 - 10:04 AM Good question! My mobile only gives me a choice of its own annoying ditties. I'd use The Kerry Polka- nice and lively to summon you to the phone, simple enough so that you can get a full 8 bars (i.e. the first half of the tune) in 36 notes, and the one note that is below the 'octave +1' range sounds ok transposed up an octave. It might just put you off the tune for life though... Noreen I'm pretty sure it's on JB's tunefinder site- I'll look it up later if you're interested. |

Subject: Mobile / Cellphone tune for a folkie From: Zebedee Date: 17 Oct 00 - 08:14 AM I have recenty (perhaps against my better judgement - but I need it for work) bought a mobile (cell)phone. As you are doubtless aware, from being endlessly annoyed at hearing other peoples phones ringing at inopportune moments, most mobile phones offer you a choice of 'tunes' that you can use as your ring tone. Mine allows me (within limitations) to put in my own tune. The limitations are however quite severe. I can use an octave plus a tone with no accidentals (C - D+), I am only allowed 'long' or 'short' notes, (crotchets and quavers) - no fancy triplets or suchlike, the phone plays at (approx) 200 bpm so it needs to be a fast tune, and I am limited to a maximum of 40 notes. I tried putting in 'Gravel Walk' which works quite well, but I run out of notes way before the end of the second 'resolving' half of the tune. So, can anyone recommend a good tune that fits within the above criteria? I'd be grateful if replies didn't moan about such devices, but concentrated on finding me a tune - if you hate such phones, just look on it as a musical puzzle. I had to get one for work... Looking forward to your thoughts Regards Zeb
