Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: GUEST,the Doer of Things Date: 20 Jan 01 - 04:09 PM Mrrzy, I have a great tendency to offend with no offense intended. I lack certain social skills. I gave a quick answer to your thread and immediately thought that it may have offended. Thanks for being gracious! DOT |

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: GUEST Date: 19 Jan 01 - 07:02 PM Haven't a clue. Lots of children's poems sound this way. Mother Goose, Shel Silverstein, T.S. Eliot, Rudyard Kipling. Check with a children's librarian. |

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: Mrrzy Date: 19 Jan 01 - 12:17 PM Yes, but it isn't Seuss. There is a baseball bat in the cat story... |

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: Grab Date: 19 Jan 01 - 12:13 PM That sounds fairly Seuss-ish. Couldn't identify the book though - it's been a few years since I read Cat in the Hat... :-) Grab. |

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: Mrrzy Date: 19 Jan 01 - 11:26 AM Refresh - come on, somebody remember this for me! One of the stories had a fat cat and a lean cat, a long thin grin cat, or something like that. One of the stories might have been the man who wasn't there (he wasn't there again today, I wish, I wish he'd go away)... |

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: Mrrzy Date: 18 Jan 01 - 12:14 AM Well, I asked for a creep... oh, yeah, isn't that why I"m single again (BG)? Anyway, it's to my mind American, I have very roundish drawings in mind, the louse mouse thing is one of a set of stories, poems, other little vignettes in the book, hope that helps...Oh, and Doer of Things? I can't even see what you thought might have offended me, so don't worry. You can explain, though, I'm curious! |

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 17 Jan 01 - 11:32 AM Ah, Steve, you slipped up there, giving me an "in" to thread creep. Jazz critic and broadcaster Benny Green (the UK BG not the US BG) used to sneer at "pop" but actually played sax as one of Lord Rockingham's 11. When they had to appear on "Top of the Pops" or some similar programme he wore a beret and dark glasses and hoped none of his jazz friends were watching. Who were the rest? Red Price would also have been on sax (he was on everything in those days), Cherry Wainer on organ, I think.... RtS (but I could be wrong.....!) |

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: GUEST,Matt_R Date: 17 Jan 01 - 11:30 AM Sorcha, Stuart Litte was written by E.B. White. Raymond Chandler wrote the "Philip Marlowe" detective stories. The quote reminds me of a song by The Move,

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: Steve Parkes Date: 17 Jan 01 - 11:24 AM You couldn't be thinking of "Hoots mon, there's a moose loose aboot this hoose" by Lord Rockingham's XI at all? (if you are, try thinking about something else quick!) Steve |

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: GUEST,The Doer of Things Date: 17 Jan 01 - 08:24 AM I thought I had plagarized "smartassedness" from Leon Albo. No wait, that's where I aquired the attribute, not the word. :-D It is a delightful word though, from whoever the source. DOT |

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: Chocolate Pi Date: 17 Jan 01 - 12:53 AM The Littles replace "Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse" with "louse" in order to protect Stuart's feelings. Chocolate Pi |

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: Sorcha Date: 16 Jan 01 - 10:50 PM Doer, smart-assed ness usually comes in the back door....(grin) I sort of recognize the phrase, some children's author, British maybe. I'll think.......(even though it's hard) Shut up, spaw. |

Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: GUEST,Doer of Things Date: 16 Jan 01 - 09:20 PM I am sorry Mrrzy. Subject: RE: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: Allan C. Date: 16 Jan 01 - 09:14 PM Gee, I don't know the answer. The context I heard this in was when someone was trying to illustrate a southeastern Virginia accent. You know, when "house" is pronounced, "heaoose" - or something like that. But I never knew the origin of the phrases. |

Subject: NON-Music: Mouse in the House Louse? From: Mrrzy Date: 16 Jan 01 - 09:01 PM A phrase has been running through my mind; I think it's from something British and juvenile, would appreciate all help and any creeping into music so I don't annoy the purists: There's a mouse in the house What on earth is it from? Thanks, all! |
