Subject: RE: Lyr Req: William Ho From: LenRie Date: 08 Feb 01 - 09:23 AM Sorry, we are in the US. My mom grew up in Arkansas. She is 63 and knew this song as a young girl around 15. She was singing snatches of it last night, but not loud enough or clear enough to understand. I will try to get a few of the phrases the next time she is coherent. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: William Ho From: Sorcha Date: 07 Feb 01 - 05:34 PM I'm wondering if it could possibly be some variant of Child #77? Margaret is usally in a room insetad of a field, and Willie is dead, instead of having only one leg......but??? A Sharpe version, maybe? LenRie, you still didn't tell us what country, and how old is "old, old"..........? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: William Ho From: LenRie Date: 07 Feb 01 - 04:42 PM Yeah, I found all those, too. It was a about a boy who went to war, came back, saw his girl in a field, and he only had one leg when he came back. I can barely remember it. My mom use to sing it and "Please Mommy Please" all the time. I found "Please Mommy Please" but absolutely nothing on the other. I will just have to try and listen when she is up and singing it. Thanksfor the effort! |
