Thanks, Homeless...hope to hear a change for the better for you, soon.:-)

Thanks for asking, Big Daddy, it bears repeating.

The thread was Something to Ponder on for 2001 so Big Daddy was right in his original information. I am still puzzled as to why I failed (human error on my part) to find it earlier. I remembered the thread, worked on the assumption that Big Daddy had posted to it and still missed it in the forum searrch from the quick links. O well, glad someone found it!

Jon

Thank you all for your help and attention. Homeless has the right one. It was apparently a Thanksgiving rather than New Year's posting. Again, thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Big Daddy - I remember seeing this in the threads a while back. I couldn't find what thread it is in, but I found it elsewhere on the net. If it is only the statistics you are looking for, rather than the thread, then this might help.

Amos - not all of the 'catters have roof or computer. I'm currently without either. (While I do have access to a computer, I don't own one.)

That makes me feel a lot better about sweating down the mortgage this month. It really does. Thanks! Since everyone on the 'Cat has obviously got a roof, a computer, and the leisure time to use both, I would say they are all a buncha durned elitists!! Max should go out and round up some of them skinny guys with sticks just to balance things out.

Here are some statistics from a thread that is active right now. I don't know if they are the kind of things you are looking for, but they might be useful while you're looking for the other thread.

A little more food for thought:

If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following:

There would be: 57 Asians 21 Europeans 14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south 8 Africans

52 would be female 48 would be male

70 would be non-white 30 would be white

70 would be non-Christian 30 would be Christian

89 would be heterosexual 11 would be homosexual

6 people would possess 59% of the entire world's wealth and all 6 would be from the United States. 80 would live in substandard housing 70 would be unable to read. 50 would suffer from malnutrition. 1 would be near death. 1 would be near birth. 1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education. 1 would own a computer.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep...you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace ... you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

Big Daddy, can you remember who any of the posters to the thread might have been? We could search on a specific name at the Quick Links under Forum Search.

Also, if it was designated as "BS" you can put that in the filter box and set the age of the threads back to 90 days for every thread thus named rom 90 days 'til now.

We've had so many political ones, lately, discussions where this may have come up, it will take a bit of wading through them all, unless you can think of some specific phrases or words to put int he Super Search, barring, of course, someone coming on here and rememering exactly what you are looking for....

good luck,

kat

Thanks, BlueJay. I think we're on the same page, politically speaking. My reason for the request is apparently different from what you thought, however. I have lived for quite some time around a number of "yuppy" types and conspicuous consumers for whom there is never "enough." The thread I was referring to gave some statistics about how most of the world actually lives (most don't have big houses, two cars, "expendable income," etc.). Living in a country where Nixon was re-elected at the height of the "conflict" in Vietnam, and where we could get 12 years of Reagan and George Sr., I have little hope for justice in American politics. A decent man like Jimmy Carter is reviled and a criminal like Nixon (not to mention other, more recent crooks), is seen as a venerable statesman! Heaven help us.

Big Daddy- Try going to the top of the page, and under "Filter" click 90 days. Maybe you'll see something that jogs your memory. I looked, but didn't see anything related.

Good for you, though. This could be an important reference point as we move through the Baby Bush era. I have this feeling, that before "w" is done, my family will more closely resemble Somalians than the Bush family. Not even three months into his presidency, Bush has already demonstrated his contempt for the average American wage earner by cancelling "repetitive motion" safeguards, and by ruling airline strikes as unacceptable. Reagan all over again. Not to mention the tax cuts for the rich, which will net me maybe five hundred dollars a year, at the expense of our national fiscal health. No thank you.

Now, Big Daddy, I don't know where you're coming from. Presumably, you are looking for statistics which prove how much better off we are in The United States. All I can say is, remember these numbers in four years, so you can see how your lot in life has declined, (unless you're rich). Grab your ass and lean against the nearest wall. The Red Sea is about to be parted. BlueJay

Need help locating a thread from around the first of the year. It was basically a list of statistics letting a number of us know how well-off we are compared to the world in general (food, clothing, shelter, etc.). Thanks.
