Whew! Such an honor to see my name and John Raitt's in the same subject line, Joe! For me, there is no other voice than John's for "If I Loved You". But I sing it anyway because I think it is one of the most beautiful songs ever.

On his 1995 Broadway Legend CD, John Raitt sang "They Say It's Wonderful," "Anything You Can Do," and "Hey There" with Bonnie - and all three cuts were wonderful. The only Carousel song he did on the album was "If I Loved You." Great album.

Didn't you ever see that episode of "Cheers" when Carla and Diane marched out the door singing "You'll Never Walk Alone"? Ruined it forever for me.

You are too sweet, CamiSu! To me the funny thing about that role was that I was told by the director that I was supposed to act as someone who was "pompous and pretentious". Well, first I had to go to the dictionary...but after having figured out the meanings, I was at a loss to find a way to portray such foreign traits. I am sure that Wayne encountered similar problems. But getting to sing some of those songs made it all incredibly special and dream-like. To this day, I can rarely sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" with dry eyes.

Oh and Allan, A friend of mine, Jenny Dwyer, was Ryan for a while, though without a TV I don't know much else, except that she replaced a much younger actress and so they had to "age" the character for a few episodes before Jenny got there! (All the cultural stuff you miss without a TV! But to tell the truth, I'd have rather seen you in Carousel any day...)

Thanx for all the Mudcat help finding Allan. We have connected (rather quickly, in fact), and your assistance is much appreciated.

He and I are more alike than I realized. I noted his desire to sing Billy's songs in Carousel, and Soliloquy was always my favorite, too. I am comforted by the fact that Bonnie Raitt's dad, John, sang the part on Broadway and that I have lived long enough to be a fan of two generations of singers from the same family!

I'll have to admit that it took years before I really appreciated that role. There were some songs that "Billy" sang that I really wanted to perform. Notably, his soliloquy, "My Boy Bill/My Little Girl". But after a time, I came to really like many of "Snow"'s songs. I include the line quoted in my previous post at the tail end of my version of "Summer Song" and have done so for nearly forty years.

I guess I should note that my friend, Malcolm Groome, played the part of "Jigger" in that production and later held the role of "Pat Ryan" on Ryan's Hope opposite Kate Mulgrew.

Wayne Hamilton was a very active member of my class. Among other things, in a dual cast of "Carousel", he played the same role as I did, (Mr. Snow).

I just checked out his website and discovered that he is still very much involved with music. He has even recorded a couple of CD's. I suspect that I will not have much difficulty in persuading him to return here from time to time.

His finding me here is just one more of the many cool things that have happened to me here at the Mudcat.

A high school classmate of mine just told me that another friend and classmate, Alan Clark, has something to do with the Mudcat organization. I'd like to confirm that, make contact w/Alan and find out what he's up to. He was a much-admired member of our class and the only one, to my knowledge, who played acoustic guitar and folk-style music.

Any help appreciated. Thanx!
