Love this strip. There but for the lack of grace of dog go I, said Bucky when Satchel's stumbling had lost something out the window... what's not to love?

The Anchorage paper has run "Get Fuzzy" for years. I mostly like it but one morning was priceless: Bucky was doing the All-Blacks haka and Rob comments "Stay out of his way today" to which Satchel says "Like you really needed to tell me that!"

Tacked to my refrigerator:

Bucky: I'll have you know that I consider myself to have a robust air of machismo about me.

Satchel: I'm no expert, but I bet using the phrase "have a robust air of machismo about me" means that you don't.

Ha, I came to this site looking for chat about the Kingston Trio, and found this thread. I can;t start my day without checking to see what diabolical thing Bucky is up to. I absolutely love him. I have nine cats of my own. One of them, Blackie, has the same protruding fangs and bobbed ears as Bucky does. Difference is he's all black. But Bucky is a piece of work. And I have to admit that I got teary eyed the other day when he lost his best friend Smacky at the playground! And Little Satchel with his wrist watch. So naive and lovable. This is a great strip. Glad to see chat about it.

Here's a picture of Horse, the cat in Footrot Flats.

I just looked at the above site and The Dog is referred to as a border collie, so who knows? I don't, that's obvious! ;->

Corrction: the Dog is not a border collie - sweet natured working dog - but is a .... I don't know, maybe a cross between a Blue Heeler/Kelpie/Border Collie??

He's tough, macho - well, except when he shows his gooey side.

CamiSu,

Yes, I saw that the Dog has died, and Murray Ball is maybe not going to continue, but I'd be surprised if that is really-truly the end of the cartoon strip.

I have heard Footrot Flats is over because the dog died. (the real dog, that is) I enjoyed the books greatly, particularly since I have a sheep farm.

I have a love-hate relationship with Get Fuzzy. Some days it's absolutely priceless, other days it's just dumb (or I am!).

Footrot Flats is a cartoon strip by Murray Ball, a New Zealander. The big boofy cat in that - a farm cat - is scary! Big & hairy and scary, like a charging boar. More like a pit bull terrier than a cat.

I don't think there is an online site. There are books available.

The cartoon is centred around "The Dog", a border collie on a farm in New Zealand, and his human, called Wal, and assorted animal and human characters. It's been around for years. Very clever, very funny. One of my favourites.

Example: Wal and the Dog are at the local agricultural show. Wal stops at a Hot Dog stand. The dog reads the sign and wonders what a hot dog is. Just at that moment Wal takes the hot dog out of the bun, holds it above his mouth and starts to eat it. The dog exclaims: I don't want to know!

That cat is pointy from absolutely every angle. I would just love to see him get hold of Garfield...wretched travesty that he is. Then too, I would love to see Garfield thrown into a crate full of tarantulas. Or a pit full of pit bulls. Or a sausage-making machine. Whatever, as long as it really did the job.

Yes, I do love Get Fuzzy. You can get it here

Kevin & Kell is only online and is here You can read it from day one online, which would take a LOT of time, or get the books from Plan 9.

Sluggy is also only online, and does get a bit wierd, (understatement anyone?) and is more easily followed from the beginning. I must admit to ignoring it lately. here

Some lines from these just tend to enter the family lexicon, as when Satchel was told to get Bucky and came back complaining that he was "Pointy side up"...

Now don't complain to me when you spend time reading back comics. Not my fault!

Oh yeah--I also love(d) "Bloom County," and have the collections. It's a shame that the great strips run out of steam after a while, but it's better to put them to rest than to flog them along half-assed. I respect Breathed and Watterson for knowing when to let go of it.

I love "Get Fuzzy." I also love(d) "Calvin and Hobbes," and have most (if not all) collections of it. I'm afraid I too haven't heard of any of the strips mentioned by Naemanson.

You've got good taste, Matt. I actually wrote 2 humorous songs directly based on Far Side cartoons. I agree that the comics are in decline lately. Dilbert is a good satire of the business world, but it's so true that it's kind of horrifying, in a really hateful way.

Me too, LH. After Calvin& Hobbes, and The Far Side were done...the comics just haven't been the same...

Yup, it's there, at least some of it. Kinda cute. I like Sluggy Freelance better but Fuzzy is good too. I may add them to my list of daily comics.

Any other comics you like? I've been following Sluggy, Bruno The Bandit, Sinfest, and Kevin & Kell for some time now.

Yes, I remember that one quite well. Steve Dallas was there. I guess I like it because of the art, and because it reminds me of a Siamese cat my family had once...he was a testy little monster, to say the least.

I can't stand it.

The only "Get Fuzzy" strip that I thought was the least bit funny was the one where they are on the subway and someone says "Lots of weird people on the subway" or something like that, and all the folks on the subway are comic strip characters.

Just my opinion, tho. Just my opinion

Seems like about a year ago this new comic started up in the Toronto Star called "Get Fuzzy", and I like it a lot. It's regular characters are: a young man with almost no life, who rather resembles Steve Dallas of Bloom County, but is of a much better character (he wears a T-shirt with "Lowe Tech" emblazoned on it); a shy and very unconfident dog named Satchel; a siamese cat from Hell named Bucky.

Bucky is the craziest, rottenest, meanest cat of all time. He makes Garfield look like a Hostess Twinkie. Which is appropriate. Garfield is not a real cat. Bucky is.

Anybody else like it?
