Subject: RE: 15 April:1912,1865 From: Art Thieme Date: 16 Apr 01 - 11:45 PM "That Was The President And That Was The Man" was written by Phil Ochs right after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963---not for Abraham Lincoln. He wrote 2 different versions of the song that I recall. Lincoln was mentioned in the song just to show that since memories of Lincoln didn't fade after he was gone, neither would memories of Jon Kennedy. Both of those songs are in my collection I titled Songs Of The Life, Times And Assasination Of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The whole collection pretty much is in the Archive Of Folk Culture at the Library of Congress in Wash D.C. We had a decent thread here some time ago on songs of J.F.K. and I think I posted this song there--among others. Art Thiemne |

Subject: RE: 15 April:1912,1865 From: Abby Sale Date: 16 Apr 01 - 08:26 PM I got to sing this at the local club yesterday. And nobody threw anything, even. Now I could be a tenor And easily hit high C But I heard one on the radio And that was enough for me. Whenever I think of Lincoln I never can forgive The guy that would murder a man like him And let these tenors live. "I Just Don't Want to be Rich," On Sam Hinton's The Song of Men; Folkways |

Subject: RE: 15 April:1912,1865 From: Irish sergeant Date: 16 Apr 01 - 12:58 PM Abraham Lincoln was actually shot April 14, 1865 (Good Friday) He died at 7:20 am April 15, 1865. My father was born a week to the day before the titanic sunk. A fact that we found quite amusing (when we were out of arms reach.) Hope everyone had a marvelous holiday. Kindest reguards, NEil |

Subject: RE: 15 April:1912,1865 From: Little Hawk Date: 15 Apr 01 - 03:11 PM There's a man at the Orillia Song Circle who frequently sings "Have You Got Any News Of The Iceberg?". It's a pretty offbeat and amusing take on the Titanic incident. - LH |
