Well let me be the first to come in here and boldly say God Bless the FBI and all they stand for. They've put their asses on the line to save this country from commies and agitaters since the beginning. I salute them.

Sorry. just kidding. But I DID like Reefer Madness.

Latest news I heard on the FBI was that they organized a fake "conference" at HQ that was nothing more than a taxpayer funded retirement party for one of the higher-ups, disguised as an official business function so that more FBI officials could travel to attend it and be reimbursed. But who do you complain to when your tent's at the bottom of the hill and the guy camping on top has a full bladder? Just another example of BOHICA for the taxpayer. (Bend Over, Here It Comes Again!)

But as was stated in a previous post, if they're monitoring this board, "Great job, FBI! Best wishes on another 93 years of law enforcement excellence!"

I can remember a group of us nominating J Edgar Hoover as the most evilest face ever. Those eyes, and a mind to go with it. Slan Ard Mhacha.

The FBI is in the news a lot over here, Wolfgang, because some of their past problems have been coming to light, there is a new director, and there is the ongoing laugh to be had over its foibles.

(They are also called the Feebs or Feebies.)

I imagine Catters with political interests find the FBI an interesting subject, or have a variety of saved-up impressions of it, due to its role in the 60's, among other suppressive functions it has performed.

Why just this particular birthday? I went to a site with memorabilia for 26th of July and found among many many others the following birthdays for this day:

G.B. Shaw
C.G. Jung
A. L. Huxley
S. Allende
B. Edwards
S. Kubrick
M.J.Kopechne
M. Jagger

and (from a large selection):

resignations of King Faruk and Chruchill
sinking of the Andrea Doria
J. Hoffa sentenced for fraud
establishment of CIA

or (on the music side), first releases of these songs (also among others):

Tampico
Honky Tonk Woman
Put a little love in your heart

So, please, why of about 200 memorabilia for today the FBI? >I could easily start more than 100 threads a day with birthdays, deaths, and other memorable days.

Wolfgang

Actually Kendall, J. Edgar just liked the initials which he thought stood for Fine Butts Institute.

What we have here is a failure to communicate. It was not called the FBI originally.

They've got the odd Canadian as well, Spaw.

...the term "white slavery" has always amazed me. Wasn't Chuck berry jailed a couple of times because of the "Mann" Act? Knew there had to be a Music connection somewhere, Ha Ha!

As I recall, FBI was a very good instrumental by the Shadows. I remember trying to do their dance steps to it on stage once, tying my legs in knots, and ending up flat on my J Edgar Hoover.

Check your history. The order creating the agency was given by Attorney General Charles Bonaparte on July 26th 1908. Hoover joined the agency as Assistant Director in 1921 and became Director in 1924.

Where did you get that info? I believe the FBI was established in the 20's, originally to deal with enforcement of the "Mann Act" (white slavery). J. Edgar Hoover was its first chief.

Today is the 93rd birthday of the FBI. The organisation was established on July 26th 1908 in Washington, DC. Still going strong I believe. :-)
