Currently, one street drug combination that is often obtained by prescription is called "Pancakes and Syrup". I believe the "Syrup" part of this combination is a codeine-based cough syrup, but I don't remember what the second drug often used recreationally with this is.

Hi, okthen. Codeine is derived from opium. It has an effect similar to morphine, but is less habit-forming. There have been many incidents of codeine abuse, but I don't know how serious the problem was. I think that America tends to get a bit hysterical about drug abuse. The usual response is to ban anything that might be addictive, to protect people from themselves.

I first heard this song in the 60's, and thought "what's this song about then" my mum used to give me codeine when I was a kid and there was no big deal.Now I'm thinking maybe it was used to represent some other drug (cocaine?)Or is codeine stronger in the US ?

I was looking for the lyrics to "Codeine" or "Codine" and couldn't find them, so took the time to write them down. I'm not sure how to post them on the database?
