Hey, Bob, it's I, Chance. How ya doing? Yeah days go by where I don't see much I want to join in on. Still there's usually something. If you're still out there, check out my (Dis)Advantages of Recording Label Thread, you might find it interesting. Take care of yourself. Regards, Chance

Bob, I believe that when people introduce blue-clickies that point to old threads, it is only meant to add to the discussion. I don't think it means that since it has already been discussed that there should be no further discussion.

New discussion of a subject is always welcome, and the information in the old threads can still be germane to the new discussion. There is lots of info out there from people who are no longer with us.Read them, enjoy, and continue with the new.

The answer to that, Bob, is to come up with an idea so totally stupid or ridiculous that NO ONE here has even thought of it before...and launch a thread on that. I did this way back when with a series of threads on William Shatner, and the rest is history.

It helps if you pretend to be absolutely serious about it. Then there are usually a few GUESTS who start lecturing you about all kinds of things in an attempt to straighten you out and put you in your place, and so it goes...

Then, just to keep 'em off balance and show that you are not a "one-trick pony", you launch some other threads that actually are about serious and meaningful subjects.

This is how one fights cabin fever during a long Canadian winter. Cool, eh? Well, cold actually...

Ebbie, it seems that every time I start a thread people jump all over it, and start with the blue clickys saying that this subject has been covered earlier, so I usually just read and hope to find one that I like.

My first reaction to this was, don't complain about the lack of good threads, start one yourself. But that's nomnreally fair - for all I know 53 might have started up half a dozen great threads before starting this one to round off the evening.

Anyway, I'm glad this has turned into a thread mostly of people pointing the way to other ghood threads, present or past, rather than another griping session about how the Mudcat is going down the pan. (I wonder when the first of thoise was started ? I suspect about three weeks after the Mudcat emerged.)

Here is one a lot of people might have missed, . It is a permathread stuck right up the top (cf Poe's "Purloined Letter"): the Mudcat Site Map and PermaThread Index Riches untold.

Start a good one yourself... perhaps a music discovery you want to share; or music's effect on a hostile crowd; or the look on a child's face when its favorite music comes on; or a dog or cat or other animal's appreciation of music; or one's own debt to the role of making music in one's own life ; or a question on how to get a mood across in an instrumental; or how to write a song that has been niggling at the back of your mind; or your mate's reaction to the music you love; or : (You get the idea. There are a million of them.)

Welcome back.

Ebbie

The one called "How To Create A Folk Song" (in the meaning of folk link) is pretty funny.

Hi BOB, it's good to see you back here. How are you? Susan is right about old threads, just put a word into the search thing eg guitar or whatever, then change the time thing to say one year, or whatever.I would try to start a interesting thread myself, but it's nearly 5 AM here in the UK and I am going to bed soon.john

Bob, if you want to see some good threads, a place to look is alwasy BACKWARDS. What a lot of us do when the threads get boring is research in the old ones. For instance, check out some of the spirituals listed in the African-American Spirituals permathread. There is also a list in the FAQ of Memorable Mudcat threads. Lots of good stuff in there. Now, if you have some info to contribute to them go ahead and add it, but you don't need to post to them just to say you like them-- people get mad about that sometimes. See, when they see the old thread back up they get all excited thinking there will be some cool new stuff added and then when they see it's not anything new, they get disappointed. OK?

~Susan

Hey BOB, how's it going? You ought to check out the Buddy Wasisname thread. It's got some really good stuff on it. But you'll have to look in the links to see it.
