Bluegrass is way too fast for anthems--To prove my point, check out the TV commercial that features a bluegrass version of the "Song of Joy" from the glorious 9th--

Lets ask some of the pickers from around the world.I have heard super Bluegrass from Japan, Canada, UK, Russia, to name a few. What song or tune do you pickers think of when bluegrass us mentioned?

I have my own ideas but cannot settle on just one. Maybe that's it. Is bluegrass to diverse to can into one song? I don't know. Jeep

Foggy Mountain Breakdown has to be the Bluegrass Anthem.

Oh, Amos, "Bullshit!" (grin) Bluegrass does seem to have gone Global, though. Lots of times when I do searches I turn up pages in Japanese, German, Dutch, etc.

The sentiments of most existing Bluegrass tunes are too local to make a global anthem. One good possibility that comes to mind but is not bluegrass is "Last Night I had The Strangest Dream". But using existing pieces I would think you would have to modify the language to reflect something global to humans. And Cotton-Eyed Joe just doesn't make that grade, boys!!

Since you invited opinion, it is mine that bluegrass has no place in the "anthemic" scheme of things. C'mon, all the best bluegrass tunes are either murder ballads or songs about not getting along with someone, be it over land or love (with the distinguished exception of the above-mentioned Uncle Pen). So let's appreciate it for what it is (or was), a bunch of gnarled countryfolk singin the cut-time blues.

Several suggestions:
Uncle Penn
Rocky Top
Cotton Eyed Joe
I'm sure there are more out there..........

I think we ought to provide an adaptation of "May the Circle Be unbroken" which elevates it from the personal loss of the original to an inspiring Humanity First sorta thing. It's a lovely chorus and a decent tune.

This may have been done, if so set me straight.

Let's hear a discussion about a Bluegrass Anthem. Not just a national anthem, but the world. Bluegrass us no longer confined to my hills of home but is loved worldwide.

Possibly one of Bill Monroes songs or Dellmore brothers or whoever.(Forget being politically correct, be thoughtful and say what you want)
