Subject: Newport Songbook Arrives - Hurrah! From: voyager Date: 11 Apr 02 - 10:18 PM MUDCAT STRIKES AGAIN 90+ days after my auction bid, the 1962 Newport Songbook arrived this week coincident with my 50th birthday ! Nice timing, Max! As I mentioned to WYSIWYG, one of the beautiful coincidences in this songbook is the following twist The Stanley Brothers are listed singing "I'm Born to Ride" - traditional Dock Boggs songbook entry included "Oh, Death" - Dock Boggs 40 years later(!), Ralph Stanley earns the Grammy award for this penetrating, mournful tune . And to see that it all winds back to Newport, 1962 is quite a twist. I guess, Time does reward the triumphant survivors somehow End of meandering message voyager FSGW Ghetto |
