And storytelling in the Volunteer garden as well, I trust!

I'm happy too. Very happy that all those who want it haven't lost the Theatre Bar and that the Volunteer sessions will continue, but also happy that the Volunteer will be open so that we can have our usual fringe "Folk Club" session in the garden on the first Friday night. Everyone welcome! Singers, musicians, everyone. Beginning to look forward to it again!

Good news. I'll try and see you there. I know that I'll get a decent sing at your session.

We could have a pedantic argument about "assertiveness is not aggression" but since we all seem to agree that polite argument can win the day there's not much to have any further argument about........

If anyone missed the deadline for buying season tickets before the price shot up - my inquiry about the possibility of a refund on the one I bought (now that my remuneration for running the singarounds will be a season ticket) elicited the response that the management would rather avoid a refund if poss. So there's still a chance for someone to get a £124 ticket.

I admit to using the word hijack as I thought it might grab people's attention, I would even admit to making a fuss as I believe that we allow too many good things to be ruined simply because no-one is willing to stand up & say something. I would like to emphasise that at no time did I advocate being rude or offensive as in most situations that sort of behaviour tends to get people's backs up and sometimes will have the opposite effect to the one you want i.e. they'll do it just to be bloody minded cos you've upset them!

That being said I'm really pleased that we seem to have had an effect for the good. See you at Sidmouth if not before Jude

Actually it was Jude who kicked up the fuss by starting the hijack thread and encouraging people who support the singarounds to contact the management..... thanks Jude, Kevin and Alanww.

By "kicking up a fuss" I meant being politely but firmly assertive, which is the best way in such matters. (If you can't blow them away, be polite. In fact even if you can and do, it's still far better to be polite about it, and more effective.)

Quite right about the PELs - that mention was a nod in the direction of the existence of other threads about that - this one isn't the place to discuss it.

Well, thanks guys, but personally I'm assuming that performing in a theatre venue which happens to have a bar attached is OK. And I'm hoping that this thread isn't going to be hijacked by PEL arguments, which deserve a separate thread. And I wouldn't want to get a reputation for kicking up a fuss, because I didn't (and McGrath has warned on another thread about not gratuitously offending if you want to be effective). I sent one e-mail to the Song Director expressing the hope that the festival could continue to accommodate singarounds in a venue that wasn't a noisy, smoky pub. And I'm very pleased to hear that it can.

I suppose the Theatre Bar and the Volunteer do have PELs?

Brilliant. And thanks especially to Kitty for kicking up a fuss, and everyone else who did. It seems to have worked. Power to the People.

Right, now to sort out the Public Entertainment Licence nonsense...

And see you in Sidmouth. (Mind, Kitty has just said in a post somewhere that she has bought a season ticket, in the expectation that, without the Theatre Bar, she'd have the free time to be able go around and use it...)

To all those kind catters who expressed their appreciation for the Theatre Bar singarounds at Sidmouth in the hijack thread started by Jude L....

I've had an e-mail today from Alan Bearman (so has Tim Edwards)saying now that the new landlord has settled in at the Volunteer the trad sessions will stay there, and the morning and lunchtime singarounds in the Theatre Bar will continue, and am I available to host some???

I've e-mailed back saying I'd be very happy. I hope McGrath's happy too, now he's bought a ticket!!! And all the patrons of the Volunteer.....
