Subject: RE: HTML Practice Thread From: GUEST,BLP Date: 09 Jan 05 - 08:19 PM Can I do a link to this thread? |
Subject: RE: HTML Practice Thread From: GUEST,Jon Date: 08 Oct 04 - 06:25 AM Just to expand on what Mudguard said regarding the inclusion of the http:// (the red bit) and part of the web address. Much depends on where you want to link from and to. For external links, eg. linking from Mudcat to Contemplator, there is no question that the http:// part must be there but for internal links, eg. linking from this Mudcat thread to another Mudcat thread, I think it is best to drop that part. The reason for this is sites like Mudcat at times do have more than one server, eg. last time I checked buddy.mudcat.org exists as well as www.mudcat.org. A full link say to http://www.mudcat.org/threads.cfm would fail if you were acessing buddy as www had crashed. /threads.cfm on the other hand would work on either server. We went through this fairly recently at folkinfo where I provide a bckdoor from the annexe. Some links in posts were failing on the annexe copy as they were given in full. Dave kindly ran an SQL job for me to remove all instances of "http://www.folkinfo.org" in links in posts so that all such links will work from either copy of the forum. I've been quite ill for the last couple of months and not up to programming but when I feel better, the plan is actually to modify the posting code so that if a link is given as say "http://www.folkinfo.org/forum.asp", it will be stripped so the post will only contain the /forum.asp part of the link. It's only a 10 minute job to implement but between panic attacks, etc. even 10 minutes concentration on something like that has been too much. Jon |
Subject: RE: HTML Practice Thread From: MudGuard Date: 08 Oct 04 - 03:15 AM Murray, you did not create a moving clicky. You created a clicky with text inside moving (under certain circumstances). The difference seems small, but have a closer look: you can click in the line where your moving text is - even if you don't hit the text it still works as a link. When the moving text is at the right edge of the browser window you can click near the left edge ... Also, this marquee stuff (which I find very annoying) does not work in all browsers. Thanks for the reminder to turn that thing off in my newly installed browser... Sir John, to make a clicky: <a href="http://www.mudcat.org/">text to click</a> the green part is always the same. The red part is very important! It is not enough to just write www.mudcat.org, you must give the protocol stuff as well - otherwise your link won't work. Btw, it won't work if you put any '9' or ')' in the green parts ;-) |

Subject: RE: HTML Practice Thread From: GUEST Date: 22 May 02 - 03:14 PM nah, I hate Marquee. It was the most obvious 'improvement' beyond coloring each letter differently, which would have taken too long! Also the Netscape users are probably thinking 'what do you mean, 'moving' |

Subject: RE: HTML Practice Thread From: MMario Date: 22 May 02 - 03:11 PM AGENT PROVOCATUER (Tune:Fiddlers Green) I walked by Headquarters one evening so fair To view all the models in their underwear! the bras, thongs and corsets designed for a fee Knickers and teddies and things I shouldn't see Chorus: Wrap her up in silk, leather or latex Cotton, linen, lace or a fur The better design is just one of kind And I'll buy one someday......for my favorite girl! Suspenders and stockings and g-strings galore Whenever I see them I want to see more Unmentionable undies way out of my league The kind that make any man's heart try to seize chorus The window is empty, not a model in sight I nearly keeled over in shock and in fright My God! What has happened at my favourite store? To put scads of police tape on window and door? chorus Seems thieves they broke in through the door in the front And stole the designs worth plenty of blunt Outrageous! Horrendous! The nerve of those thieves! I tell you I'm really goin' to get peeved! chorus Joe Corre, designer at Pro-voc-a-tuer He says they'll regret that they burgled his store The black market won't touch things made one of a kind One look and the cops will know it's one of mine! chorus I hope that Joe's brain it is still crankin' out those kind of designs that will make a man shout And soon I would hope to review all his stock Whenever I stroll by on my evening walk Wrap her up in silk, leather or latex Cotton, linen, lace or a fur The better design is just one of kind And I'll buy one someday......for my favorite girl! |
