Subject: RE: RIP: Stephen Jay Gould From: Wolfgang Date: 04 Jun 02 - 03:52 AM I can envision observations and experiments that would disprove any evolutionary theory I know but I cannot imagine what potential data could lead creationists to abandon their beliefs. Unbeatable systems are dogma, not science" (Gould, Hen's Teeth and Horse's Toes, 1983) Wolfgang |

Subject: RE: RIP: Stephen Jay Gould From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Jun 02 - 11:30 PM Just to give Stephen one more spin down the list, I thought I'd mention that he was a singer. Every week he sang in a choir or chorus, though the article I read about this didn't say where it was. Gould was Jewish, so I'm guessing it wasn't a church choir. Anyone aware of where he did his singing, and what kind of music? SRS |

Subject: RE: RIP: Stephen Jay Gould From: GUEST,frank Date: 31 May 02 - 11:54 PM His work made me appreciate hard work and expected honesty.. he would argue about someone agreeing with his position for the wrong reason. in a world that just wants people to greewith us, he insisted that they agree only for the right reason.. his honesty was nothing if not inspireing me to what work, any work, is and should be about. read his story about why there are no more .400 batters. he wrote it when he found aut about his cancer. the force of will makes me more determained to meet people like this.. too many have died while i wait for an oppertunity to meet them.. RIP Stephen.. and thanks for the light for truth, and for explaining that science is a method, not a noun |

Subject: RIP: Stephen Jay Gould From: Mrrzy Date: 30 May 02 - 12:41 PM Man, I was moved to tears when I heard this prolific author and thinker had finally died of his cancer, which ought to have killed him over 10 years ago. I guess I'd gotten used to the idea that he was still living, and thought he'd just keep on going. Whom will we send to counter creationism now? Anybody feel like writing a song/eulogy? |
