Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: Mr Red Date: 28 Jun 02 - 08:38 PM Nigel its the cookies you gotta watch yea Joe it was the Donny Osmond thread. I didn't see it. If there is a factual story to tell it would be informative to precis it somewhere, but as told to me I took it to be spoof. |

Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Jun 02 - 11:20 PM Well, I think we're pretty conservative about deleting. I'm probably a bit more hesitant about deleting than Max and Pene, but maybe not. I'm more available then they are, so I may end up deleting more than they do. I think I would have left the Donny Osmond thread up, but I lost in that discussion. I don't think any harm was done by deleting it, and several people considered it offensive. We delete duplicate threads, Spam, and threads and messages that personally attack or threaten people. We also use our judgment to delete threads and messages that are likely to cause trouble - the Donny Osmond thread was one of those judgment calls. We've seen more trouble than our share lately. Sometimes, we long for times when we can just have a good time and talk about music. The JoeClones aren't supposed to delete messages or threads except for technical problems or duplications - so the blame falls on Pene, Max, and me. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: Mr Red Date: 27 Jun 02 - 09:39 PM Mrs Lemon asked me about disappearing threads and postees. But I suspect someone has changed their name or been banished for posting something mischievous and bordering on the libelous. |

Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 27 Jun 02 - 06:52 PM That's a good question Murray, perhaps we will never know! In case anyone missed it little john was alleging that Donny Osmond had just been found dead in a bordello, and officials state that he died of a drugs overdose.Though I could not help wondering, if he had just been found dead, how do they know it was a drugs overdose??? Maybe the toxicologists were working very fast. It just struck me as a bit strange how a cause of death was announced before a post mortem had been carried out! |

Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 27 Jun 02 - 06:24 PM I had actually assumed that that was the case, GUEST, and have no problem with the decision. But, if saving members from embarrassment is a criterion for deciding whether threads should stay or go, then at least half of the threads I have started should be deleted .... Murray |

Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: GUEST Date: 27 Jun 02 - 06:13 PM artbrooks, I feel FINE about the situation, not as 'twitchy' about the issue as you obviously are. Murray, I saw the thread too (posted to it). LJC had obviously heard an inaccutate rumour, and, I imagine, someone zapped it to avoid him further embarrassment. Seemed like a good move to me. |

Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 27 Jun 02 - 06:07 PM This would seem to be the appropriate point to ask the question, what happened to LJC's thread titled "RIP Donny Osmond", day before yesterday? One minute it was there, next minute it was gone. Or did John from Hull and I have a simultaneous psychic experience , and imagine the whole thing....? Murray |

Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: Bill D Date: 27 Jun 02 - 04:45 PM what scares ME is to see a thread refreshed with several post by ME that I have no memory of making! on the other hand, I am often surprised by how clever I was..*grin* |

Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: greg stephens Date: 27 Jun 02 - 02:09 PM What I always do(apart from turning the carved rose) is clicking on the name of whoever posted to the lost thread (GUEST Nick in this case) in some other thread (in this case this one, if you see what I mean), and it pops up the most recent threads he's posted on. This seems to get round the fact that recent threads arent indexed. |

Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Jun 02 - 02:00 PM Our Digitrad and Forum Search the most visible of our search engines, and yet it is hopelessly out-of-date. It has not been indexed since sometime last year. Max had a system set up that was supposed to index it daily, but apparently that system failed. We know it's a problem, and we're trying to come up with a solution. In the meantime, it's best to use the Filter and the Forum Search. Instructions are in the FAQ. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: greg stephens Date: 27 Jun 02 - 01:33 PM You'll find it in the passage under the altar. You can get in by turning the third carved rose up from the bottom on the right, when a flagstone will slide out just beside the altar (dont stand on it while turning the rose). |

Subject: RE: Do threads get eaten? Deleted? From: GUEST Date: 27 Jun 02 - 01:32 PM Click here for your thread. The easiest way to find a thread is to use the 'filter' box. Put a word from your thread title in and set the number of days to something appropriate. The 'forum search' only works for threads of 100 years old or so. |

Subject: Did my thread get eaten? Deleted? From: GUEST,Nick Date: 27 Jun 02 - 01:28 PM I started a thread last week about smuggling songs and talked specifically of St. Pierre and Canadian smuggling. I noticed the parenthetical (songs) was later added to my original thread name " Another Smuggling Thread", so it seemed to be edited by someone. I could understand that, as the thread was not an endorsement of criminal activity. There were a couple of responses to the thread. Today I searched the database to see if any more responses were added and I can not find it. Was it deleted, eaten by the server?, did I offend some one? Am I doing something wrong in my search? Just wondering out loud. Nick Search for "smuggling" threads |
