Subject: RE: BS: Paltalk From: Liz the Squeak Date: 08 Jul 02 - 07:32 PM I'm trying to get people back in the habit of dropping in on a Sunday evening (GMT/BST), and we've had some quite good sessions. Norton1 ran them for a while but he's busy during the summer months, and things sort of slipped for a while. The upgrade is not all good... the popups become more vicious and quite often, they bounce a mike. Sorry I missed you Bradfordian, unless you were noodling in the front bar of the Wickam.... LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Paltalk From: Francy Date: 08 Jul 02 - 11:35 AM I find that the big rooms are just what DW said....Covers of the same songs over and over and the cams get in the way. I had to upgrade Paltalk when I came back from my trip and had to re-register under a different name. No big deal. My new name on Paltalk is Broadside. My new folk music room on Paltalk is Old-Time-Hootenany. I'm going to try and open it as often as I can. AS DW said, you have to do it yourself....The pop ups don't bother me at all......Frank of Toledo |

Subject: RE: BS: Paltalk From: dwditty Date: 08 Jul 02 - 10:17 AM Hi Alan, I am a regular fixture on Paltalk....there are some wonderful people and musicians there, mixed in amongst the fray. I paid the $20 annual fee to rid myself of the incessant popups, and I am glad for it. As far as live music goes, there are what I call "the big rooms," which are fine if you want to hear Eric Clapton's Tears from Heaven over and over. There are several smaller rooms that are just great. I open a room occasionally (DWDitty's Coffeehouse), and I suggest you do the same. It is very easy to do from the Paltalk Website. I further suggest that you block the use of cams when you set up the rooms. In doing so, you wind up with people who are truly interested in the music. In other words, you can use paltalk to make a perfectly wonderful place to to gather with like minds and play/hear the music you desire. The trick is to do it yourself. Enjoy!!!! dw |

Subject: Paltalk Singarounds From: Lanfranc Date: 08 Jul 02 - 04:36 AM I used to enjoy the old HearMe sessions, and then we moved to PalTalk, which was great for a while. Now, every time I log in to PalTalk they either insist on my taking an upgrade, pop up "offers" that either have no relevance on the eastern side of the "pond" or of zero interest to me, or both. Liz the Squeak and Frank of Toledo occasionally get a session going but I always seem to miss them. There must be a more reliable, less intrusive forum for an internet singaround than PalTalk, but I haven't found it, much though I would like to. Has anyone else any ideas, or suggestions as to how we could get back to the regular virtual singarounds of yore? Alan |
