Subject: RE: BS: arms to israel From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 10 Jul 02 - 06:41 PM Well, the popular things, like taking the railways back into public ownership, or spending more money on the National Health Service, aren't really the kind of things where he could be accused of copying Thatcher. The same would apply to the popular things they won't be doing in a hurry, such as slimming down the fat cats.
Selling arms to all and sundry is pretty standard for governments of both sorts of course. It's never been particularly popular.
So is breaking promises and telling lies, and that's not too popular either. No doubt any future (official)Tory government that goes in for that will be accused of copying Labour.

Subject: RE: BS: arms to israel From: Nigel Parsons Date: 10 Jul 02 - 11:14 AM Going back to the original post, why is it when Blair does something considered popular it is a triumph for the Labour party. When he does something questionable he is "Emulating Thatcher" (A Conservative Leader)? Nigel |

Subject: RE: BS: arms to israel From: GUEST Date: 09 Jul 02 - 11:58 AM Today's Financial Times - the government of the former Soviet republic has been taking an active role in organising direct ties between Ukrainian companies and Iraq.
Yuri Orshansky, a Ukrainian businessman...organised a trade fair in Baghdad. "Even if they want to create a nuclear bomb, we will study this...." |

Subject: arms to israel From: GUEST,guest.al Date: 09 Jul 02 - 08:44 AM How fsr can Tony Blair go towards emulating Thatcher? Now it`s deciding that it`s allright to sell arms to israel in contravention of current agreement cos "it would upset the USA" quote from the guardian yesterday. I thought, probably not alone, that I voted for a labour government with some principles, not a Bush poodle |
