Subject: RE: Help: Truro, Cornwall - any pub singing? From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 12 Jul 02 - 01:20 PM No apologies needed John, It's only a 30 min drive for me from my folks at St Ives and St Agnes. I happily chose to enjoy the Top House hospitality to the full, and hope to again in a couple of weeks. It's also slightly unearthly to watch the great beams sweeping over the shore as you drift off to sleep. Oh I wish I was in Helston...... Keith. |

Subject: RE: Help: Truro, Cornwall - any pub singing? From: GUEST,Kernow John Date: 11 Jul 02 - 06:21 PM Dave if it was a Tuesday night you went on then you wouldn't hear the anthem I'ts reserved for the Friday night Singers along with Sloop JB, Grandfathers Clock and The White Rose among others. It's Bloody frustrating. You won't find many Cornish songs sung as the guy who leads the session doesn't like them! John |

Subject: RE: Help: Truro, Cornwall - any pub singing? From: Dave Bryant Date: 11 Jul 02 - 10:56 AM When Linda and I were down that way the other year, we sang in a pub in the middle of Truro one afternoon - I've always been one for just popping into a pub and singing. The landlord liked it and we got a booking for an evening later in the week. I can't remember the name of the pub, but it was in the road that went from one end of the market down towards the river (High Cross St) and had doors on two different roads. I can also remember a copy of "The sailor's Prayer" (Oh Lord above, send down a dove) which was acredited to someone other than Tom Lewis. We went to the Cadgwith session, we quite enjoyed it - although we were a bit disappointed that no-one sang the anthem - we thought it would be rude for us two "emmetts" to sing it (mind you I learnt it from Mervyn Vincent). |

Subject: RE: Help: Truro, Cornwall - any pub singing? From: GUEST,Keith A o Hertford at work. Date: 11 Jul 02 - 05:17 AM A club not a pub session, but well worth a visit is The Star at St Earth on a Saturday. It's a long drive from Truro to the Top House but you won't be sorry. W hen I go I park under the Lizard Light and sleep the night as the most southerly pissed folkie in Britain. Keith. |

Subject: RE: Help: Truro, Cornwall - any pub singing? From: GUEST,Kernow John Date: 11 Jul 02 - 04:44 AM Bob If you can make it down to the Lizard on a Monday,PM me. The session is hosted by members of the group I'm with but we don't tend operate as a group on Mondays. I'm now running the Folknews Kernow site and try to keep it up to date so check it out.
Guest, I find what you say about Cadgwith interesting. My wife and I used to be regulars (every week) but gave up in the end. One of the reasons we started The Lizard Session. John |

Subject: RE: Help: Truro, Cornwall - any pub singing? From: GUEST Date: 10 Jul 02 - 07:25 PM Cadgwith - variable. Some welcoming, others downright hostile. Bodmin - loud, welcoming and fun. Boscastle - join in and be welcomed, some really nice folkies there on Mondays. Is the Trevose still going on Thursdays. Good but mic'ed up. |
