Well why didn't you say so before then!

There you go. From the horses wossname. The fact that they were ALL at the reunion a few years ago, band and Morris side alike is beside the point.

Sorry Liz,

The Albion Band did not form to play for Albion Morris. Chingford Morris were invited to dance on an Albion BAnd LP and the dancers involved split from Chingford and formed Albion Morris.

Strictly, the name began with Shirley Collins' No Roses album; Albion Morris was later. I actually went to sleep at an Albion gig in the '80s; it was that boring. A little later on, Hutchings got rid of the drum kit and ran a (mostly) acoustic lineup for a while, including Keith Hinchliffe on guitar and cittern; that had a genuine vitality that had long been missing and was, from my point of view, the last successful attempt at doing anything interesting under the Albion name.

Apparently splitting up is something they do regularly... Ashley goes off and starts a new band, taking the Albion name with him, so in fact, there is no one Albion band at all.... And don't forget they all spawned from the band formed to play for Albion Morris... who strangely enough, have a CD coming out soon.... it's called 'Still dancing after all these years'. There was a move afoot to call it 'Bastard son of Morris On' but this was quashed on grounds of taste and decency. So were many of the photos.

Don't worry, although it may not be with this present line up (and when did it ever play with the same line up at consecutive gigs anyway), and despite what Ashley says (he says the same thing every time) the Albion Band will be back, like the proverbial prodigal son, just when you thought it was safe....

fogie, the ridgeriders is an occaisional project linked to the Meridian area TV show and as such appears for short runs in the spring and some festivals.

Not sure if he has copyright on the word Albion, but he seems to have Albion band, Albion country band and Albion country dance band etc. sewn up :-)

Isn't he doing Ridgeriders? How come Ashley seems to have a copywrite on the word Albion? As far as I was concerned all the spin -off bands like Home Service were the Albion band.

I may be repeating news that some may have already heard, but for those who have yet to find out, It seems that following the planned winter tour the Albion band will be no more. More news at the folkicons website, www.folkicons.co.uk

What will Ashley Hutchings next project be?
