Morris dancing is one of Englands chariteristic folk dances.It comprises a of a variety of forms of traditional ritual dances from England, and though well known during Wulliam Shakespeares time, the industrial revolution lessened the dances popularity. By the turn of the century , the Morris dance was only practised by a dwindling number of pensioners in the less sophisticated villages of the English Midlands. But The Green ginger Morris Men are promising to help revujanate thethe traditiomal ritual with the series of performances this weekend. queen Victoria Square and The Pier are also being pencilled in for performances, though the picture-esqe Trinity Square , in the shadow of Holy Trinity Church, will be the centre of the days action.The event will also feature dancing group Green Ginger Garland from Hull, with the final hour in Trinity Square featuring massed dance displats. More tham 100 dancers areexpected to turn up.City Centre HullPartnership spokes man Roy dean said" Hull is reeally nice, and we looking forward to it" N.B He really said loads of stuff, but thats what he meant, and its easier to type. There is loads of dancing people going including=Buttercross Belles from Otley, The Harthill Morris Men, Three Shires Morris from South Yorkshire, Green Ginger Morriss from Hull, Green Ginger Garland and Beberley Garland. there is a picture as well of some men with beerds and funny hats and sticks.john |

The Morris and English dancers will take to Trinity Square,in the heart of Hull's old town on Saturday for the all day festival. Traditional dancers from around the region will be performing in the square from 10am to 4pm, in what promises to be the biggest event of its kind to take place this year.Organisers, Hull's Green Ginger Morris Men are hoping the day will be a big sucsess.More than 100 dancers are expected to turn up for the day.
