Teribus, Lee Westwood came back from the dead and did well in the doubles, but like McGinley he was having a bloody awful run pre the RYDER cUP, but once again it was left to the Paddy to bring home the bacon. Almost exciting as the All-Ireland Final, what a finish.

Just thought of another, that I believe is unique to golf. With respect to the Ryder Cup - it's like a session. The twelve best players from both sides of the Atlantic turn up to play for the entertainment of the crowd - and don't receive a penny for it.

Oh Ard Mhacha, don't be too hard on Lee Westwood - the only Englishman in the European side - going into the final days play both sides were level at eight points apiece - Lee Westwood played his part in winning three of those eight points.

Very well put. Also, both are a lot more difficult to do well than they appear and a good golf swing is based on rhythm, timing and tempo.

Similarities between golf and music

1. You can play as an individual or as a team member

2. It is universal, played throughout the world

3. It can be played by young and old alike

4. Irrespective of accomplishment you can play in any company and be afforded the courtesy that will allow you to perfom

5. Playing with those more accomplished than yourself improves your performance

6. Extremely social irrespective of class, colour or creed

Another of its great advantages for its amateur ranks at least - you can play the same courses as the "greats". Very few amateur footballers or cricketers ever get the chance to play the likes of Wembley or Lords.

Similarities between golf and music? Well, you have to work hard and paractice hard in order to be able to do it well; and yoy gte people with very different levels of skill who enjoy playing it. That goes for all sports.

But as sports go, I'd have thought golf has less in common with music-playing than most. But it'd be interesting to hear an alternatue view.

Final arrangements no longer employed - loud music to announce to the Lairds that the rut is on - still popular on high castle walls and done purely for tourism, Bagpipes at full volume.
