Mine which i purchased at a Comhaltas Ceoltirí na hÉireann concert in Waltham MA had words, tranlations and a background of each song as well as a brief biography of Róise.

The book is called Róise Rua. It is completely in Irish.

It is available through the link Brian provides at RTE. And at the price advertised, it is a steal--$11.50 US. I doubt you would find it anywhere in the US for that price. Add on postage, and you've got yourself a great import for about the cost of a US CD.

Thanks for the info. It actually isn't readily available online, that's why I called upon the power of the Mudcat.

I have this, it is excellent, but don't expect it to sound like contemporary "pretty" singing. This is the voice of an old woman, but the artistry is certainly still there.

My guess is you can purchase this fairly easily online, as it has been around for quite some time now. The title translates to "Rose of the Songs" though, and the subtitle is "Songs of a Donegal Woman." The excellent liner notes were written by Cathal Goan, who works with (or used to) RTE, and is married to another Donegal chanteuse, Maighread Ni Dhomhnaill.

For US sources for the CD, try a google search for Elderly Music, Tayberry Music, Lark in the Morning, the Irish Music Store. It is easily mail ordered from Ireland from many reputable sources too. I mail order direct from Ireland and the rest of Europe frequently, and I've never had a problem.

This is a really great album by a fascinating woman there is actually a book written about this woman, although I believe it is in Irish. A caution- these recordings were not archived well and they were actually recorded over other recordings so there are impurities. Many of these songs such as TUIRSE MO CHROÍ, AN SPEALADÓIR, and NANSAÍ ÓG NÍ ÓBARLÁIN have been covered by Altan and Susan McKeown. You can find discussions of these songs if you search through the forum.

You can purchase it through RTE

I found reference to an album by this sean-nos style singer, Rose Green of Donegal. It is RTE CD 178, Songs of a Donegal Woman.

Anybody know where a copy might be lying around for sale?

For the curious, here is a review on it.

Anybody with further information on this lady, please share!
