Subject: RE: Tech: Modem problem with XP From: GUEST,sorefingers Date: 03 Jan 03 - 03:34 AM Buy a new USR modem and it will never let you down! Second idea - rent an IBM Linux box and enjoy the security, the privacy of PGP, the power of dual CPUs, the efficiency of an OS with a small memory needs, the speed of games, the chance to be free for a change and to learn what a pile of bs Winderz realy is. Ah feel I better already... |

Subject: RE: Tech: Modem problem with XP From: Bev and Jerry Date: 02 Jan 03 - 06:01 PM We bought a new machine with XP on it and had the same problem. It seems that the fax software wouldnt release the modem so we could use it for a dial-up internet connection. Went through all the diagnostics with Gateway on the phone and they diagnosed it as a defective modem butit turned out all that was needed was to reinstall the modem driver that comes with XP. The problem comes back, however, but we no longer care because we don't use the modem for the internet anymore. Bev and Jerry |

Subject: RE: Tech: Modem problem with XP From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Jan 03 - 10:34 AM I had to reinstall my modem at one point. I have an HP and I went to the HP site and by following links to my particular model, found the software that was needed to run my HP perihperals. They have the regular upgrades as they become available. So try your manufacturer for those upgrades first. SRS |

Subject: RE: Tech: Modem problem with XP From: Willie-O Date: 02 Jan 03 - 09:23 AM Since you obviously have some way of getting online, check the Lucent site for upgraded XP driver software for the modem. First though you might try just going to System/Device Manager and uninstalling the modem drivers and let XP reinstall them automatically. |

Subject: Tech: Modem problem with XP From: John MacKenzie Date: 02 Jan 03 - 05:42 AM Have just upgraded to Windows XP, but now can't get my modem to connect. I get the Error 633 message, saying port in use, or modem not configured properly. The diagnostics say modem is OK, has anyone any thoughts on this. It is a Lucent Win soft Modem 56k. Giok |
