Subject: RE: BS: PACKER FANS CRY FOWL! From: Kim C Date: 08 Jan 03 - 01:39 PM The Titans have given us an owner worthy of our best sarcastic comments. ;-) When the coliseum was being built in downtown Nashville, one of the local DJs referred to it as "The Bud-Hole." This was the same DJ who also suggested the team be called the Fighting Elvises, and wear helmets with pompadours painted on them. Personally, I thought it was a pretty keen idea! Nashville is Titans crazy. Everywhere you go, there's a decal, a flag, a jersey, a cap, something. My cousin said, I wonder how Nashville will feel when the Titans have a bad season? I said, well, you're talking about the same bunch of people who still buy season tickets for Vanderbilt football... |

I can assure you it is much, much more important than that" ~ Bill Shankly [However, no American sports are as important as life and death....] |

Subject: RE: BS: PACKER FANS CRY FOWL! From: Mark Cohen Date: 08 Jan 03 - 12:43 AM Guest, if you think it's really a matter of life and death to the players and coaches, better take yourself a long cool drink of reality. It may feel like life and death to some of the fanatics, but to the guys on the field I would venture to say it's one part personal pride, one part team spirit (yes, I believe in that), and at least five parts money. On the other hand, if you were being hyperbolic, then hype away! Aloha, Mark (who'll go for the Niners as long as the Eagles are out of it) |

From: GUEST,SHAME ON THE OFFICIALS Date: 07 Jan 03 - 11:53 PM One of the NFL's supposedly most talented group of officals will be rewarded for their SUPREME INEFFICIENCY at the New York Giants vs San Francisco 49'ers game with another chance of BOTCHING the outcome of another [just a game to the officials] but a matter of LIFE & DEATH [to the careers of] affected players and coaches... |

Subject: RE: BS: PACKER FANS CRY FOWL! From: Art Thieme Date: 07 Jan 03 - 05:05 PM I like to recall that in the 1985-'86 season, when the Chicago Bears won the Superbowl, a strange thing happened in the Bears vs. Pakers game that year. It was late in the fourth quarter. A jet plane flew over and passed through the sound barrier. The Bears thought it was the gun ending the game-----and they walked off the field and into the locker room. It still took the Packers three plays to score. Simply wonderful memories. For some reason, now, every time I open the Refrigerator (#72) those come flooding back. Art Thieme |

Subject: RE: BS: PACKER FANS CRY FOWL! From: catspaw49 Date: 07 Jan 03 - 02:47 PM Well, Cleveland had a decent year and maybe the next will be better. AND I hear there is some possibility of getting a second pro club in Ohio! Someone told me that maybe there will be a franchise in Cincinnati in the near future..................... Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: PACKER FANS CRY FOWL! From: catspaw49 Date: 07 Jan 03 - 02:19 PM Thanks beadie.....and the sports writers? They don't know squat!! Kinda' hard not to notice that the Big Ten sent 7 teams to bowl games and they went 5-2 along with the Bucks getting the title. I think it's going to be a little tougher for them to crap all over the Big Ten from now on. I got really tired of hearing how the glory days of the Big Ten had passed. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: PACKER FANS CRY FOWL! From: beadie Date: 07 Jan 03 - 02:00 PM From a Badger to the Buckeyes . . . . . . Congrats, guys, and thanks for bringing the national title back to the Big Ten (eleven), the toughest conference in the nation, despite what the sportwriters say (what the hell do they know, anyway). |

Subject: RE: BS: PACKER FANS CRY FOWL! From: catspaw49 Date: 06 Jan 03 - 10:07 PM You'll notice that nowhere in these threads have I mentioned the #1 National Championship College Football Team beating the highly touted (and very surprised) Miami Hurricanes last Friday night to bring the National Championship back to the Buckeye State....our first since 1968! We have a new legend in the making here with Jim Tressel, the first coach since Woody to achieve the "dream".........and of course he has beaten Michigan each year as well. A quick plug for the best "Team" in college football.......... THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYESSpaw |

Subject: RE: BS: PACKER FANS CRY FOWL! From: Mark Cohen Date: 06 Jan 03 - 09:56 PM Bdub, since when does a willingness to be ripped off by spending oodles of money on overpriced hats and shirts equate to caring about a sports team? (Though I admit I wore my Phillies cap all through the ill-fated summer of '64. But I was only a kid.) Aloha, Mark |

Subject: RE: PACKER FANS CRY FOWL! From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 04 Jan 03 - 11:24 PM I'm not a big sports fan. Just an observation here.... A few months ago, over Labor Day weekend, I exhibited at an arts and craft show in the Atlanta area. Atlanta is home to major league football, baseball and basketball teams, but of the thousands of Atlantans that I saw that weekend, less than five were wearing pro team t-shirts or caps. On the other hand, if I go to Jacksonville, Florida it seems like every other person is wearing Jaguars paraphenalia. The moral of the story: The people of Atlanta don't seem to care very much about their own sports teams. Why the hell should I? |

Subject: RE: PACKER FANS CRY FOWL! From: mack/misophist Date: 04 Jan 03 - 11:10 PM The only Packer I know is Alferd Packer, America's most fameout cannibal. There's a song about him in the DT. Fish, on the other hand, was a relative minor killer who only ate one person. Whatever that post is about; it's nothing savory. |
