Subject: RE: BS: GOP to Worship @ Ground Zero in 2004 From: GUEST Date: 07 Jan 03 - 01:06 PM And you too apparently Gareth. Did you not get the "Bobert the preacher" tone of my post? Have you not been seeing the ways I've been defending the use of black humor and tongue-in-cheek irony in the "Peace" and "War Betting" threads? |

Subject: RE: BS: GOP to Worship @ Ground Zero in 2004 From: GUEST Date: 07 Jan 03 - 09:55 AM What if? I think it is a question of when, not if. And my response to that, Gareth, is the seeds the US government has sewn in regards to it's greed for military superiority and winning the arms race, which are now sprouting in places like North Korea, Pakistan, etc. will become a bumper crop and eventually be used against us. At some point, those who support the military industrial complex have to realize that our nation isn't going to be able to contain the proliferation of weapons. Why? Because greedy people run weapons programs. Greedy people are doing the research to develop "new and improved" weapons of mass destruction. And greedy people want the weapons to further their own agendas, and will obtain such weapons from greedy people willing to sell them openly or through black markets. So in answer to your petulant demand to know "what if" Gareth, I say we shall reap what we have sown. And attempting to make Ground Zero a Republican shrine to celebrate MORE militarism, MORE proliferation of weapons, and MORE imperial invasions of countries to secure and control the world's oil supply so we can SPEND SPEND SPEND the profits to fuel the production of MORE weapons of mass destruction and fuel wars where we USE THEM against "our enemies", I say, for those of you who are already brainwashed by that sort of propaganda, you are just gonna love the Republican convention in 2004. |

Subject: RE: BS: GOP to Worship @ Ground Zero in 2004 From: Bobert Date: 06 Jan 03 - 06:32 PM Purdy shrewd, GUEST, I'd say. Did they invite bin Laden to make a *guest* appearance. The should, you know, since if it weren't fir bin Laden, we would be right in the middle of a Kenneth Starr variety investigation of of the crimes that Bush perpetrated in the last election. And without his little and not so little wars his approval rating would be about where it was before 9/11. In the toilets.... If the Dems are smart and if Edwards looks like *The Man*, they will counter with Atlanta ans send a message to Bush that he can't depend on "Southern Man's" vote... As fir us Greens, I'd like to see Portland or Eugene and try to win a north-western state as a shot fired over the Repubocratic bow... Bobert |

Subject: BS: GOP to Worship @ Ground Zero in 2004 From: GUEST Date: 06 Jan 03 - 06:01 PM Anyone surprised the Republican coronation will take place in NYC in 2004? According to Reuters: "We believe New York will provide an outstanding backdrop to showcase our candidate and our party in 2004," said Marc Racicot, chairman of the Republican National Committee. New York, which will provide Republicans plenty of hotel rooms and extensive fund-raising opportunities, also offered great political symbolism from the Sept. 11 attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center and made Bush a wartime commander in chief. New York officials said they persuaded labor unions to sign "no strike" agreements and secured 22,000 rooms at 50 hotels for the convention, which will be privately financed and will pump about $150 million into the economically strapped city. It will be the first time Republicans have held a convention in New York, which has been a reliably Democratic state in presidential elections although its two top public officials -- Bloomberg and Gov. George Pataki -- are Republican. Given the Sept. 11 attacks and Bush's response, Republicans hope to challenge Democrats in New York in 2004 and make a play for the state's 31 electoral votes or at least put Democrats on the defensive there. |
