Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bob Gibson's 'Super Skier' From: Rex Date: 04 Mar 04 - 12:43 PM I have a few curious relics from the sixties and seventies. They are commercial recordings on 7 in. reels. They are in boxes that look like they would hold a small stack of 45RPM records. Anyway Bob Gibson's Ski Songs is one of them. Rex |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bob Gibson's 'Super Skier' From: Midchuck Date: 04 Mar 04 - 10:57 AM Guest Lynn's lyrics look pretty much correct as I sing them when sufficiently beered up, except that the 2nd and 3rd verses are switched. I don't think it's "a little knell," it's "Little Nell," which I think is the name of a particular trail, at Aspen, perhaps. Peter. |

Subject: Lyr Add: SUPER SKIER (Bob Gibson) From: GUEST,lynn mclean Date: 04 Mar 04 - 01:17 AM Between the collective recollections of this song, I think this is pretty close : Here's what I remember from my parent's album of Bob Gibson's Ski Songs : Well they called him super skier as he sat around the sudeck, And he swore that he would never spill, When they finally took him down, they had to use three toboggans, To carry all the pieces down the hill. Well he was goin' down that slope doing 90 miles an hour, When he caught an edge of his ski, Well his clothes they were fast but the slopes they were faster, That's the last of super skier we shall see. He hollered what the hell as he schussed them parallel, He figured there was nothin' else to learn, As he started on his way, he was shouting "Andalez" ! Assumin' that he'd never have to turn. Well he was goin' down that slope doin' 90 miles an hour, When a mogul flipped him in the air, Well his jumpin' form was fine, til he ran into a pine, And two one-legged skiers left from there. One ski was headed east, the other headed west, and both of them you see were running free-er, And the folks on a little knell, they looked up as scared as hell, Saying "It's a bird, it's a plane, it's super skier!" Now the moral of my story, though my story's kind of gory, Is very simple even to a dope, Buy the fastest clothes you can, then talk skiin' like a man, But don't let people catch you on the slope. Yes he was goin' down that slope doin' 90 miles an hour, When he caught an edge of his ski, Well his clothes they were fast but the slopes they were faster, That's the last of super skier we shall see, That's the last of super skier we shall see-ee -ee. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bob Gibson's 'Super Skier' From: Art Thieme Date: 18 Jan 03 - 10:45 AM No big thing, but in your first verse Bob always sang it , "They called him Super Skier AS he sat around the sun deck..." This was making fun of the guy who talked a big game having a drink on the sun deck but couldn't ever cut it on the slopes. Art Thieme |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bob Gibson's 'Super Skier' From: artbrooks Date: 16 Jan 03 - 04:06 PM Alternate, rather offcolor, from the beginning of the mountain biking era. I have no idea on attribution. He was going down the hill Doing 90 miles an hour When the chain on his bicycle broke. Now he's sitting on the grass With the sprocket up his ass And his balls doing 60 on the spokes. |

Subject: Lyr Add: SUPER SKIER (Bob Gibson) From: beadie Date: 16 Jan 03 - 03:58 PM If this is the one recorded by the Mitchell Trio, it starts something like: SUPER SKIER (Bob Gibson) They called him super skier And he sat around the sundeck For he swore that he would never take a spill When they finally brought him down, they had to use two toboggans, To carry all the pieces down the hill CH: He was coming down the hill, doing ninety miles an hour When he caught the edge on his ski His clothes, they were fast, but the slopes were faster That's the last of super skier we will see. He hollered "What the Hell." As he lined them parallel He figured there was nothing more to learn And as he started on his way, he shouted "ANDALE'!" Assuming that he'd never have to turn. CH: One ski was headed North, and the other headed West And both of them, you see were running freer When folks on Little Nell, looked up, scared as Hell And said, "Its a bird! . . . Its a plane! . . .No, . .its Super Skier CH: Now the moral of my story, though the story's kind of gory For all you sun deck Charlies, there's still hope You buy the fastest clothes you can, then talk sking like a man But don't let people catch you on the slope! Subject: Lyr Add: SUPER SKIER From: Bo Date: 12 Jan 98 - 01:25 AM From Memory so any corrections would be appreciated. SUPER SKIER
They called him Super Skier as he sat around the sun deck,
'Cause he was slipping down the slopes doing 90 miles an hour
Well he hollered "What the hell?" as he lined them parallel
Well, he was slipping down the slopes doing 90 miles an hour
Well, one ski was headed north; the other headed west,
When he left that tree at last, he was moving twice as fast.
Now the moral of my story, though my story's sort of gory,
'Cause he was slipping down the slopes doing 90 miles an hour |
