Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Patent Shaft vrsn of Callabar From: Dave Bryant Date: 07 Feb 03 - 05:42 AM Dave Blagrove may know it - he's quite an authority on canal songs - especially silly ones. He lives at Stoke Bruerne which isn't that far from the BCN (well not by road - a couple of days via the GU though). You can probably find his number in the phone book - if not PM me for it. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Patent Shaft vrsn of Callabar From: Steve Parkes Date: 07 Feb 03 - 03:37 AM Thanks, Sorcha; but I already know that one! No, the one I'm looking for is the same story but transferred to the Birmingham Canal Navigations, and involves a trip from (I forget where) to the Patent Shaft works in Wednesbury, in what was then Staffordshire. It's possibly unknown outside the Midlands (and maybe largely so inside the Midlands!). Steve |

Subject: Lyr Req: Patent Shaft vrsn of Callabar From: Steve Parkes Date: 06 Feb 03 - 12:23 PM Does anyone have the words to this Black Country version of The Cruise of the Callabar, which describes a similarly ill-fated attempt to get to the Patent Shaft works in Wednesbury? Steve |
