Subject: RE: Kansas City - the last big trad concert? From: philgregg Date: 16 Feb 03 - 10:50 AM OOPS! Would have LOVED to be there, but don't arrive in KC till 19 March (on holiday from the UK) - anything going on for the 4 days after that? And any Irish/folk sessions in the area? Don't give up trying to promote Traditional Culture! Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's hard, but it's ALWAYS worth it! Phil |

Subject: RE: Kansas City - the last big trad concert? From: GUEST,Crazy Little Woman Date: 15 Feb 03 - 11:01 PM Thanks for the encouragement, Bill D. I hope we will be able to do some of these things. But it was such fun getting bands from Scotland and Ireland, enjoying the different accents and hearing jokes from abroad. Local talent is nice, but it's just not as exciting. |

Subject: RE: Kansas City - the last big trad concert? From: Bill D Date: 15 Feb 03 - 02:43 PM *sigh*...well, 'bands' are expensive....and Kansas is harder to get to. (I know...I lived in Wichita for 25 years).... perhaps smaller productions, self-entertainment...more locals...and a bigger 'band' as an occasional treat. Keep the organization alive, so that it is at least possible. Try NOT to get into a rut as to what you think 'needs' to be featured. |

Subject: RE: Kansas City - the last big trad concert? From: Kaleea Date: 15 Feb 03 - 01:59 AM I'm in Kansas, & I'd love to attend, but due to injuries from an auto accident a couple years back, I cannot ride in a car more than a few minutes without being in horrendous pain. Hard to be a musician when my body does not want to cooperate! |

Subject: RE: Kansas City - the last big trad concert? From: Art Thieme Date: 14 Feb 03 - 01:30 PM All the best to you and thanks from one who truly appreciates your efforts. OLD BUT AWFULLY TOUGH was a wonderful LP set. These are insane times politically and also for many who enjoy traditional arts---especially American trad other than old-timey. Thanks for all your efforts---and the best of luck to you all. "Don't mourn----organize." ---- Maybe get simpler and smaller. Unplug. Art Thieme |

Subject: Kansas City - the last big trad concert? From: GUEST,Crazy Little Woman Date: 13 Feb 03 - 12:02 PM For more than twenty years, the Missouri Valley Folklife Society has been trying to bring the best in traditional music to Kansas City, especially foreign bands. It has been a real struggle. Now, in the face of media apathy, high band fees, and high rents for venues, the society faces terrible difficulties. On Sunday, March 9th, we are putting on the Irish band Dervish at the Community Christian Church. This may be our last concert ever. Time: 7:00 PM Tickets: $20 Adult, $17.00 Adult member. Yes, this is an odd time, Sunday at 7:00 pm. It's because Dervish kindly squeezed us in. But just think, by Sunday evening you are as rested and as ready to enjoy yourself as you are ever likely to be. Remember, if enough people come, we can still keep doing SOMETHING.
