I have an understanding of folks who institute those zero tolerance ideas. More often than not they are "nice" people. But I also find, after hanging out with them a while, that I generally have zero tolerance for those people themselves! As I get older I see that time is too precious a commodity for me to waste it compromizing my music and my ideals just to satisfy the narrow ones who hired me and to keep alive the chance of another gig there.

My own personal view with kids is to let them see and experience the world and guide them along the way. The 'cat would be a great site to check out!!

However, being an employee of a school division, I am well aware of the many books-of-rule that have to be adhered to provincially, divisionally and at the school level. It would be beneficial to check that out.

We have a firewall that is meant to keep the bad stuff out, but that's not always effective.

One of our schools has (voted by the parents of the students) a zero-tolerance policy on profanity. This site would not be appropriate for that school.

Hope this helps!! Sheye

I think it would be great for kids. It is, after all, a literary site--using little graphics and with substantial content in the form of printed words. There is no more violence than in the average fairy tale, and it is less explicit than in most--and far less explicit than on TV.

I was lucky enough to get a part time job yesterday and this will involve introducing kids to computers. The idea is that thanks to Govt. money we can put together a small suite of 6 or 7 machines and work as a group. One of the remits is to introduce them to the NET.
There are safegaurds for nasty sites and I can hopefully get that sorted. However, some of the discussions on say Mudcat can at times be adult with strong language but the educational benefit of some of the threads is huge. So, should I let them read freely (I'm not talking about uploading!)or do I have to find some way of vetting, if so how? help and comments appreciated.
Regards Baz.
