As they say, you get the government you deserve

And maybe some candidates get what they deserve... The 2 candidates that bothered to send out leaflets got 78.6% of the votes with conservative beating independant by the narrow margin of 4 votes.

In this area, I'm not surprised at Labour (who lost all 7 seats they had) only scraping 8% of the vote but I would have expected Liberal Democrats to have done rather better than they did here. They gained 15 and North Norfolk as a whole has gone to LD control.

I went postal - much easier.

Results back, and the result is that most people didn't bother voting at all. Labour As they say, you get the government you deserve.

Graham.

Bagpuss - I couldn't find my electoral card (it had come) but they still let me vote. They didn't ask for identification, but maybe they recognised me, or maybe the fact that I was wearing my works identity pass at the time helped. They crossed me off the list though, so if I had been practicing fraud it wold have come to light - maybe.

MairSea - only half(?) the seats are voted on at each time - see what happens in two years time.

All four of the local candidates called/left their papers - one of them twice. (Yes, it was the ex-Morris dancer.....whether this makes him more or less alert I'm not hypothesising.)

Well I was going to vote.

I always thought that polling booths were open until 10pm.

Got my coat on, picked up my card, and discovered that it shut at 9pm. :-(

Am I mistaken, or has this changed?

Ed

I had a real go at a candidate about the Licensing Bill! He looked greatly troubled and then I discovered he was standing as Parish Councillor and only had jurisdiction over public toilets. Next one along was labour councillor candidate. He got it in the neck and said he couldn't beleive anyone would want to try to control folk, morris etc but if elected would look into it.

So look out Tony-trouble at mill from local councillor, except that he dosn't have a snowballs chance in hell of getting elected.!!

Mmmm

Living in London, sadly! I don't have the opportunity.
Ah Well. Maybe next time.
Must go, got a congestion charge to pay.

The only person who went into parliament with good intentions was Guy Fawkes.

It would appear that we are the only area not holding elections this year! Gosport appear to have voted themselves in for two terms at once!!!

Like Jon, two out of four parties here couldn't be arsed when it came to telling people if they were standing. To think I complain about lack of publicity by folk clubs.

I wonder if there is any point voting for any party, like my grandmother used to say;-

"They are all the same crabs, just in different bags"

Yep, there are elections in England. I will go out and vote later.

Only 2 of the candidates bothered to send leaflets - a conservative and an independant and I shall be voting for the independant candidate.

I just realised it was a local election coming up, the other day when a party political broadcast came on. Then I realised that We had never recieved polling cards - and we definitely sent back the electoral register form that was waiting for us when we moved into our new house in November.

So can I still vote? Anyone know?

Bagpuss
