Subject: RE: BS: Old Songs logistics... From: Jeri Date: 03 May 03 - 06:45 PM They may have to be able to locate people, and they I'll bet there's some regulation about "no more than X number of people to X square feet." I tried to think of some way they could have done it so people could choose campsites, and I couldn't come up with anything better. People could pick a site at the gate, but that isn't fair to those who can't get out of work early. There might not be any of the right-sized spots left in the preferred area when a person did get there. I can't see how this new policy could help the festival organizers at all it seems to add quite a bit of work for them. One thing I WON'T mind is not having to worry about finding a spot. They open the gates earlier every year, and I just can't get there early enough to get a good spot. |

Subject: RE: BS: Old Songs logistics... From: Peg Date: 03 May 03 - 04:53 PM yeah that's another question; are people allowed to park their vehicles at their campsites? I don't get the health regulations part of it...what does the Board of Health have to do with whether people can choose their own camping spots or not? Dividing the area up into numbered spaces is one thing; but forcing people to take whatever number comes up is a decision of the organizers, clearly, and nothing to do with sanitation issues...it's purely for organizational reasons, to make it somehow easier for them, I would think... I am gonna pack real light and hope it doesn't rain too hard... peg |

Subject: RE: BS: Old Songs logistics... From: Jeri Date: 03 May 03 - 04:35 PM Funny, Kendall! I've driven in a few major cities including Boston, and I don't wanna do it again. Peg, if it were me, I'd buy a camping ticket now just so I could drive into the camping area because it's a royal pain to schlepp a tent in piece by piece in a backpack. If you're riding with Kendall, that shouldn't be a problem though. "Family" areas (ones where families get a whole square to themeselves) can put up an extra (small) kid's tent. I don't know how much room is available for single campers since we're in bits of those squares. I have to buy a new tent as the old one's a bit leaky. Also, if I can't park my 4-wheeled closet at my space, I'm gonna have to have a bigger tent than I usually have. In any case, I'm in spot 116. I doubt it's possible for them to go back to the California Gold Rush style of finding a spot. The new assigned-space thing is coming from the NY State Health Department. |

Subject: RE: BS: Old Songs logistics... From: kendall Date: 03 May 03 - 03:51 PM I don't mind driving anywhere if I know where I'm going, but, Boston. jeez, crazy making. I dont mind being passed on the wrong side, but, in a car wash? |

Subject: RE: BS: Old Songs logistics... From: Peg Date: 03 May 03 - 09:59 AM LOL Kendall! I wouldn't wish that on anyone...though I do live in a neighborhood with wider streets than Cambridge now... Animaterra, quiet at night is good...at least you know you'll get some sleep. When I camp at Brushwood every year, there is drumming all night every night and finding a "quiet" camping area is impossible, you just have to get used to the drums... |

Subject: RE: BS: Old Songs logistics... From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 03 May 03 - 07:30 AM I have my ticket, I'm in the Quiet at Night section smack in the middle of the 500s. I like my sleep, whenever I choose to seek it, so don't mind that it should be quieter than in past years! I'm leaving early Sunday to return to NH for a wedding, so can't help you there. |

Subject: RE: BS: Old Songs logistics... From: Peg Date: 02 May 03 - 01:45 PM Spaw; yeah, it is a shame, I guess...but when you live in the city of Boston a car is expensive and a liability...I could either afford to own a car and live outside the city...or live here and not have one and thus not have to deal with the hell of driving amid other Boston drivers... Yeah, it's a shame I don't make lots of money. Oh well. |

Subject: BS: Old Songs logistics... From: Peg Date: 02 May 03 - 12:01 PM Hi all; I am planning to attend Old Songs but have not sent in my registration yet. I am kinda ambivalent about the assigned camping space thing. I just wanna camp next to who I want to camp next to and figure it out when I get there...I wonder if they will go back to the old system next year if this year turns out to be a disaster... I am riding with Kendall on the way out but he is camping in the RV araea and I will have a tent...we had a blast camping next to Dharma Bum last time; hey Dharma! Do you have your assigned spot yet? Anyway, all that aside, I also want to ask if anyone going to this shindig will be returning to the western New York area (Elmira specifically but anywhere nearby is good, too, like Binghamton, Corning or Ithaca or even Waverly, PA)...if at all possible I want to find a ride back to this area rather than going back to Boston, as I will be spending the month of July in western NY. So if anyone has room for me on the way back (I will help with expenses of course) could you please PM me? thanks! Looking forward, Peg |
