I find it interesting that Marshall got the job in the first place because he was perceived as a staunch conservative. Whatever happened to him, I wish it happened more often.

Thanks, Amos, for reminding us. We need to remember. We need to foster a new generation of civil rights heros. The civil rights of all of us are in peril now, but let us not forget the many who haven't yet gained that which I fear to lose.

Yes. One of the most courageous Americans in his century. Some of the stories about Marshall still amaze me.

The late Mr. Justice Marshall graduated from a small, historically Black university here in PA. The school, Lincoln University, is a part of our State System of Higher Education System. The school is not ritzy or high toned like Morehouse or Howard ( where he got his law degree ). He wasn't an outstanding student, but he stuck in and made it through. He worked days and went to school nights at Howard. Again, he was not stellar, but average. He was, however, NOT average in his tenacity. Steady work, with some setbacks, gradually eroded the practice of educational segregation. Nothing flashy, just hard work. Case by case, city by city, the work continued until the chance to present a solid case for school desegregation came up in Brown vs. Board of Education. He got criticism from all sides for taking his time.

Just an averge lawyer, who happened to play a large part in helping to change American society.

He is sorely missed--Clarence Thomas is such a sorry, sick joke to play on the American public as Marshall's "replacement."

Note that today, July 2, is/was Thurgood Marshall's birthday -- a man who was a major force in the civil rights movement.
