Subject: RE: Hawaii to NH - a splendid time was had From: Mark Cohen Date: 30 Jul 03 - 01:07 AM We're in Philly now. The Gordon Bok concert was, as expected, simply wonderful. The only song of Gordon's that my 18-year-old niece had ever heard was "The Brandy Tree," which is one of her favorite songs. I was going to ask him at the break if he would do this, not expecting that he would because he generally does relatively new material. But as it happened, he did the song in the first set. My niece was thrilled! Spent the day today in Hershey. The medical center has mushroomed since I started there as a student (gulp!) 30 years ago... Shayna had a fantastic time at Hersheypark. I think we went on 6 of the 9 roller coasters! Going to try to get together with Max and/or Bert while we're here in the Quaker State, if it works out. Otherwise y'all will just have to come to Hawaii. Aloha, Mark |

Subject: RE: Hawaii to NH - a splendid time was had From: curmudgeon Date: 29 Jul 03 - 08:58 PM It was absolutely delightful to have Mark, and his most charming daughter join us and give us such wonderful new songs. Looking forward to his photojournal when he returns to "paradise." Annimaterra -- It's been nearly two years since you've been here. Why not come to one of the shanty/forebitter sessions. They start earlier (3:30) and end earlier (7:30) and they're not crowded and smoky. We can actually hear ourselves. And the parking garage is a scant two blocks away. Next session is on 9 August. See you there? -- Tom |

Subject: RE: Hawaii to NH - a splendid time was had From: Stilly River Sage Date: 29 Jul 03 - 01:34 AM Hey, Mark, I imagine you're flying on this trip, so if you have any plans that take you through the Dallas/Fort Worth airport as you cross from east to west, let me know and I'll see if I can get out there to visit between planes. I'll PM the particulars. If you are spending time in the area, all the better, we'd love to have you stop here. Maggie |

Subject: RE: Hawaii to NH - a splendid time was had From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 28 Jul 03 - 06:27 PM Garsh, thanks, Linn- I guessed that! What I meant was to arrive unannounced and just show up. But this rotten sore throat and malaise, now a headache that feels like a hangover (and I don't even drink anymore!)- kind of cramps my style and my urge to drive 2 hours, look for a parking place, and sit in a smoky joint for a few hours before driving 2 hours home! |

Subject: RE: Hawaii to NH - a splendid time was had From: Bat Goddess Date: 26 Jul 03 - 09:03 AM Mark! What a pleasure to have you and Shayna (am I spelling her name correctly?!?) join us last night! And not only hear "The Bowling Shanty" (and other songs) but to find out first hand how maple syrup tastes on poi. (Poi is, unfortunately for a NH resident with an adventurous palate, not available as Pillsbury Instant Poi or Birds-Eye Frozen Poi, or even as Campbell's Condensed Poi in cans.) Alan remarked later how nice it is to hear a singing guest introduce our sometimes very incestuous group to new songs. I don't think anyone has ever sung about hippopotomuseseseses at The Press Room before. Too bad Ramona hadn't brought her daughter Isobella along for the evening so Shayna wouldn't feel alone in a crowd of people disguised as adults. Looking forward to seeing your pictures of last night posted here! Linn |

Subject: RE: Hawaii to NH - a splendid time was had From: Jeri Date: 26 Jul 03 - 08:59 AM It was a real pleasure to have Mark & his daughter (can remember name, can't spell it, don't know if he wants it public) here. Mark, your daughter is a treasure! I really enjoyed the song about hippopotamice you both did. And what was the waltz-tempo song I said I really liked?! Was it Wait for the Tide? (I remember a Bm chord in there.) Can't remember the tune, either. It's a shame the tunes aren't in the DT. If somebody (such as me) had a recording and was able (like myself) to do MIDIs for them, it would be a wonderful thing, no? Anyway, enjoy the rest of the trip. Hope I meet up with you again somewhere down the road! |

Subject: Hawaii to NH - a splendid time was had From: Mark Cohen Date: 25 Jul 03 - 11:56 PM The music session at the Press Room today (Friday 7/25) was everything I hoped it would be. Great songs, great tunes, wonderful harmony singing, good beer (never imagined I'd be enjoying a beer called Smuttynose), and good folks, including Tom and Linn (a/k/a Curmudgeon and BatGoddess) and Jeri (a/k/a Jeri). And hearing one of my songs with a dozen voices in 4-part harmony on the chorus...what a thrill! Thanks, everybody, for making me feel right at home. Even the weather cooperated--it was a real Hawaiian day! Aloha, Mark (Already took my daughter to a Red Sox game and to the Science Museum, tomorrow I'm going sailing with my niece on the Charles River (she just passed her sailing test with CBI), and tomorrow night is the Gordon Bok concert. Next week, Philly...) |
