IvanB, thanks so much - but she hasn't broken her current one yet. I think I'll go with ClintonHammond's advice and look for a Fisher-Price one. Though a quick google turns up a "pretend" CD player, but it doesn't play real CDs. Hmmm. Wonder if there's one designed for the military. Young soldiers are probably about as gentle as my friend's daughter with their technology!

JTT, the big earphones with the "donut" around the ear are probably the best for that type of situation. Since they fit over the ear instead of in it, they probably wouldn't put up as much resistance to being yanked off.

As for CD players, I don't know of any that are necessarily any sturdier than others. However, if you want to send me a snail mail address, I've got a couple I'd be willing to give you for her. One's an actual Sony, about ten years old, but it worked fine the last I used it. The other's an RCA that plays MP3's as well. Both of them have AC adapters and the Sony has a car kit as well.

If you want, send me email at Ivan Bradley's Email.

As far as player goes likely something from Fisher-Price or another toy manufacturer would dbe the most durable...

I know FP made a cassette player a few years ago, that a young 2nd cousin of mine had, and it was damn near indestructible...

Except that a CD player needs a fairly well focused laser to do the reading... even small bumps can mess them up...

How about a minidisc player? They are *in his best Tick voice* "nigh-invulnerable"

and well, headphones eh? -I- even manage to go through ear buds, and standard 'walkman' type headphones like there's no tomorrow... They all pretty much suck... I think that's the plan so we have to keep buying more...

Friend has a daughter with cerebral palsy and a little retardation, and the kid loves her CD Walkman. But she goes through earphones very fast, because she's always pulling them on and off. And she's forever cleaning the Walkman and the CD, too.

What's the absolute toughest version of both earphones and Walkman? I'd like to buy her a tough one that she can't break easily, but that'll still be a pleasure to her.
