The not-so-hidden costs keep piling up, too, and mean big profits for the shurb's cronies: Windfalls of War.

One report from truthout said the Haliburton contract was doubled because they are not just going to rebuild Iraq's oilfields, they are going to....drum roll please...drill for new oil...surprise, surprise....

Some one I know works for a holding company, keeping tabs on the people who actually run the companies his employer owns. My friend is firmly convinced that a number of these CEO's are psychopaths. My friend is probably wrong, but that gives an idea what business is like today.

Well, another factor that has to be looked at is greed. No, really. There is unbridaled greed going on in the US now that I cannot rememeber seeing in my life. Seems that the green light has been given to any big industry to do what ever they want! You can almost pick the industry. They're all out to squueze the working class, which is working its was into a Third World situation... And we don't hear about inflation... But we all see it... Been to the grocery store lately? I don't know who's watching or keeping the stats but there has been at least a 10% increase in the cost of food.... Take gasoline. 25 to 30 % increase... Yet under this current adminsitration, which has shown no propensity for telling the truth, the inflation numbers are in the 2% per year!!! Like if there's anyone out there that believes these stats, PM me. I've got a brdige to sell ya'...

And has anyone noticed that the economy grew by 7.2% in the last quarter. Well, again, these numbers have been supplied by the Bush Lieing Machine... Okay it might have grown a little. Greta. Why are folks still loosing their jobs faster than Bush's tax-cuts-for-the-rich economy is creating jobs? And has anyone ever factored in just how much of this growth is from orders for stuff that is going to Iraq, and paid for by our kid's and their kid's credit cards?

It does have something to do with the war though. George dubya is trying to punish Canada with trade sanctions because we said no thanks
to his invitation to tour Iraq. Free trade be damned !

I am a builder here in the Pacific Northwest, U.S.A. As such, I live or die with the price of materials. Lumber is always a volatile market, somewhat based on "supply and demand." Guess what I learned today ... the price of half inch, OSB plywood (4' X 8') is now close to $ 18 PER SHEET.

Last year, I paid $ 7. Why the difference, you ask. Simple ... Bush's war.

At the beginning of the war, the military ordered enough plywood, for Iraq, that it took ALL the production capabilities of the three largest manufactors THREE months to complete the first order.

Couple that with the seasonal hurricains, floods, and fires, plywood, and many other building materials, are priced sky high.

As a deck builder, I rarely need plywood, so I was quite surprised to learn this information from my local lumberyard this morning.

I wonder what other hidden costs are out there? Bob(deckman)Nelson
