Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gospel song..I wouldn't take nothing From: jimmyt Date: 12 Nov 03 - 02:34 PM Mary, I just sang that song this past weekend. It is part of a musical called Smoke on the Mountain, a wonderful musical set in the 1930s and placed in a Baptist church as a setting. I actually had to sing a solo of this acapella, for 4 measures, then guitar accompiniment. It is in the Key of D and when the guitar player joined in on opening night, he was in the Key of C! I had to stop, make a lame excuse as to it being my fault, then promptly started it again and when the guitar player came in the next time, he was in the right key. I guess it makes up for some of my stage screwups that made someone else look stupid! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gospel song..I wouldn't take nothing From: wysiwyg Date: 12 Nov 03 - 01:12 PM Hi Mary, It's a good idea to search Mudcat first-- CLICK FOR OLD THREAD. Some have said they have heard a third verse (not on the Goodman version). But altho I have kept an eye out for it for years, I've never come across or heard additional verses myself. If anyone has more verses, please post in the OLD thread. ~Susan |
