Subject: RE: Lyr Req: sean south From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 26 Mar 01 - 04:56 AM The old search engine ("Digitrad Lyrics Search") can be a bit unreliable, and in this case it does indeed fail to find sean south; the link in the alphabetical listing doesn't work either. For myself, I rarely use it anymore, and would recommend instead the "Digitrad and Forum Search" on the main Forum page, which brings the song up straight away as per Matt's link, together with links to several related discussions. Subject: Lyr Add: SEAN SOUTH From: Ian Date: 01 Feb 97 - 02:23 PM Dennis, Here is 'Sean South', as I learned it. Enjoy! - Ian O'Donnell --------- SEAN SOUTH 1. It was on a dreary New Year’s Eve as shades of night came down A lorry load of volunteers approached a border town There were men from Dublin and from Cork, Fermanagh and Tyrone And their leader was a Limerick man, Sean South from Garryowen. 2. And as they moved along the street, up to the barracks door, They scorned the dangers they would meet, the fate that lay in store. They were fighting for old Ireland’s cause, to claim their very own, And the leader was a Limerick man, Sean South from Garryowen. 3. But the Sergeant spied their daring plan; he spied them through the door With their Sten guns and their rifle butts; a hail of death did roar; And when that awful night was past, two men lay cold as stone. There was one from near the border and one from Garryowen. 4. No more they’ll hear the seagulls cry o’er the murmuring Shannon tide, For they fell beneath a northern sky, brave Hanlon by their side. They have gone to join that gallant band of Plunkett, Pearce and Tone, Another martyr for old Ireland: Sean South from Garryowen. |
